The 80s is the best decade for animated films imo, but I guess the 2000s comes close. Every single year of the 80s has at least 3 good films.

1982: Time Masters, The Flight of Dragons, The Plague Dogs
1983: Unico in the Island of Magic, Heroic Times, Barefoot Gen
1984: Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind, Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer, Bagi, the Monster of Mighty Nature
1985: The Adventures of Mark Twain, Night on the Galactic Railroad, Angel's Egg
1986: Castle in the Sky, Cat City, They Were Eleven
1987: Laughter and Grief by the White Sea, Wings of Honneamise, Phoenix: Space Chapter
1988: My Neighbor Totoro, Gandahar, Grave of the Fireflies

The decade I was afraid to post because unless you're a die hard anime fan(see mjf), the options are quite limited. I just hope I've got something for each year.
I'm looking forward to the 70s thread. :) I wonder if I'll be the only one to have a film for every year.
1956 is the most recent year where I haven't seen any animated feature films. I'll have to fix that soon. Maybe I'll watch the Russian Twelve Months. It looks like that's probably the best choice for 1956, especially since I liked the Japanese Twelve Months which is similar.
Edit: Btw even without anime there's still at least 1 good film for every year of the 80s. My non-anime favorite of 1984 is The Soldier's Tale (and for the other years see my earlier post).
Edit: I just watched Twelve Months so now my next missing year is 1945. Momotaro's Divine Sea Warriors seems to be the only choice for that year.
