What's you preferred alternative and why?

I was on IMDb2 for awhile but there wasn't a lot of movie or tv discussion there so I came here instead. I liked the soapbox on IMDb2 but that was about the only interesting thing there.

reply

Yeah it seems all the soapboxers went there unfortunately. I don't want to hang at both places, so I made a choice to stay here as the movie/TV discussion here is better as there are links to all movies unlike IMDb. I miss the soapbox, but I choose to support the superior boards here, and hope they eventually follow.

reply

Yeah it's a shame this soapbox is so dead. I really liked a lot of the people on the other one. Maybe some of them will migrate here eventually? I remember seeing complaints about the moderators and administrator being too strict. This site is definitely superior. There just isn't much to IMDB2, so I'm baffled as to why it's so much more popular.

MovieChat hands down!

IMDb2 is garbage.
Hey I posted for years and years at the old IMDb.

I posted for five minutes at IMDb2 and I'm banned.
Screw them.

reply

I agree. I posted once, and found it clunky and confusing. It is garbage.

Same exact experience here.

It's a shame that movie Chat isn't more active. I miss watching a movie and chatting about it right after, or during a movie for that matter. However, here I make a post and sometimes I don't get a reply to a post I've made for hours, weeks or months, if ever ;(

It takes the fun out of it.

reply

Yeah, it's turned into a real snooze fest.

the boards for current movies are fairly active.

Oh, good to know, thanks.

What did you do to get banned after only five minutes?

reply

I think IMDb v2.o was created by very "limited" people. They didn't even let me to get an account. I guess I put some of them on place in the old IMDb message boards. I'm banned but I don't cry

reply

Thank you all for your thoughts and opinions. I'd have to agree with you all.

This thread was started over two years ago and a few said people will migrate here. I have no idea if there is more people here now than then. But the facts remain the same. This is a great site but just needs more posters. Anyone have any ideas on good ways to get the word out about this place?

"Anyone have any ideas on good ways to get the word out about this place?"

Yes. We need some social media marketing. Spread the word.

Create Facebook, YouTube, Twitter etc... Accounts. Get them all set up with a few posts, then hit the "streets" hard, get a buzz going here.

Goto the other knock off IMDb message board sites, get them onboard to all come support this place. If only for a little while, to help the "Buzz" and get done momentum here.

We could start by making several posts here to create a buzz and get a group of people together to help "adverse the place".

Get some interested people here to create social media accounts to maintain.

Maybe have a few "meetings" to get everyone in the same page. It would take a little organizing.

If this place is ever going to get popular, it's going to need to get it's name or there.

IMO, Moviechat is going to fade away and die if someone doesn't "take the reigns" and go on an "awareness campaign".

The way things are going, it's just a matter of time before the place is gone due to lack of interest.

First, we need someone passionate enough to be the "boss", someone who knows a little bit about organizing and media marketing preferably.

If say more, but I have to run.

Bye

IMDB 2, sadly, has the most active member base of all the spinoff sites, but it's pretty poorly run. "Admin" lets trolls run rampant. There's no rhyme or reason for who gets banned vs. who is allowed to to whatever they want. The guy who "owns" the site is hands-off, except when you call him out.

I recently reached my boiling point with that place. Some guy named muscha repeatedly posted "I am glad Biden raped Tara Reade." He did it over 4 days and at least 5 or 6 different posts/threads. I made the admin/mod aware of it and was scolded for "calling out" muscha. That was it for me. I want no parts of a place with that excuses that kind behavior. Fucking sick.
