YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS

I do TWO THINGS ON THIS SITE. Rate movies, and ASK QUESTIONS ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS.

NO AMAZON, CHATTING ON THE FACEBOOK PAGE IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE TO POSTING ON A PAGE WHERE PEOPLE CHECK A SPECIFIC FILM. YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS.

These forums have be 90% garbage for years. I'm surprised they lasted this long tbh.

The lack of moderation and features to avoid spam (compared to other forums) proved long ago that IMDB never considered them important. If they did we would've seen genuine discussion encouraged, posting restrictions enforced, better authorisation/authentication and active policing against abuse.

It was the film fans that kept them alive by keeping interesting threads on the first page while ignoring the trolls, but it was just too easy to troll post without repercussion and spam new threads, so this noise eventually drowned out the voices.
Quantity doesn't ensure Quality.

This is a golden opportunity for someone else to do a better job!
Who that will be is anyone's guess...

Reddit is a contender but the voting system penalises criticism which is a potentially showstopping drawback. Consensus posts receive preferential treatment while alternative opinions disappear before they can be discussed.

I wouldn't trust Reddit to have a subreddit for every movie, and like you said opinions against the grain will get down votes into obscurity.

Agreed. What we ideally need is just fewer, properly authenticated and moderated forums which would become a home for genuine, interesting discussions rather than a trollfest for nolifers. These forums never encouraged the former much so were mostly filled with the latter but we made do because there was no alternative...

Yep. How am I suppose to discuss 80's movies now with people? How am I suppose to discuss ANY MOVIE or TV show with ANYONE else who's see it without these boards? There were millions of legitimate discussions on many movie boards! This is a complete disgrace, and ruins one of IMDb's best features.

I don't understand how IMDb expect people to discuss movies and TV shows. They offered NO way to continue to do that, just said, "Oh, people follow us on facebook, so we don't need message boards." What an utter failure of a decision! There are thousands of extremely interesting points, questions, and analysis's of thousands of movies, and yet we won't get to enjoy that going forward. I didn't use the boards a lot, but this move just infuriates me.

Don't waste your breath, the corporate shills who run this site won't take a blind bit of notice. Same as they did when they messed with everybody's movie lists. They had a brilliant way to keep movie lists and destroyed it completely and despite thousands of people complaining, they just carried on regardless.
I was sad to see the functionality of lists go and I will be sad to see the forum go. When we are all old and grey, we can say to our grandchildren: do you remember the good old days, when the internet was run by the people for the people, before it was all about the advertising?? Ha ha.

Are they just trying to get Facebook and Twitter followers? I don't use FB or Twitter, and I'm certainly not going to create an account for this!

You're not alone this is a horrible idea.

Reddit is flawed but this forum wasn't as active as it should be.
