REDIRECTED: crewmembers listed as credited and uncredited on same title

I have noticed before that crewmembers can be listed as credited and uncredited for the same job on the same title without any problem. This means that when a contributor audits a movie or TV show and changes a credit to (uncredited), somebody else (most likely the crewmember in question) can simply add the same credit again without the (uncredited) attribute and will then be listed twice.
It is only when one tries to change the second credit to (uncredited) that the IMDb software recoginizes the fact that these two credits are the same. Isn't there a way for the software to recognize this earlier?

This guy is my favourite: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5477021/reference
He has now managed to get himself listed on nearly every episode of the new Dallas three times, namely as:
A: Medic (uncredited)
B: Set Medic (uncredited)
and C: Set Medic - credited

Can somebody from software look into this please and make it impossible to add the same credit again when a person is already listed for the same job wit the uncredited attribute?

Although preventing duplications is being worked on, such software may be developed for "same" listings, but I doubt it will be created for "similar" listings. There are many, many variables for job titles from one title to another.

You can submit deletes for the incorrect listingss, as determined by the on-screen credits. I do this often when I find such "duplicate" listings, with the explanation: "duplication," and they usually get processed.

Hi Bradley, in most cases the credits are not just similar but exactly the same. I have been deleting the duplications, but the reason I've started this thread is to point out that nothing will stop the original contributor to add the same credit right back again without the Uncredited attribute. This way we can keep on deleting and adding forever.

I'm confused by the credits for Bryan Hardy (II) (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5477021/reference) linked by Chip. I see those credits on his own page, but not on the pages of the episodes I have checked. Am I missing something, or is the database failing to display those credits on the episodes' "full cast and crew" pages?

reply

While we're at it, the listing link for 35more isn't showing the more, just the same page, so far, iPad.
Bryan Hardy (I) is also a medic and not likely to be a separate person.
His more links also don't work but his pro page dies show filmography.
Is there a merge/update coming for the weekend.
pro Hardy (II) was blank this morning
www Hardy (II) is now showing blank too, past midnight

reply

yes, I noticed this too, Gromit. The duplicate links are much easier to spot on the update pages than they are on the display pages.

Thank you for this. I have raised a ticket (#0031171853) for the attention of the appropriate data manager.

Many thanks,
