ANNOUNCEMENT: New IMDbPro officially launches

For several months IMDbPro users have been able to opt in and out of the new Pro site while sections were re-designed and moved to a better, faster technical platform. During that time the Pro team have made adjustments to the new design and features based on customer feedback. The remaining sections (including the message boards) were moved yesterday and the option to opt back to the old site removed.

As well as improved appearance and usability, one major benefit of the new Pro platform is the rapid publish of customer-submitted data. Once approved, the majority of credits and title details will appear on the site within minutes, rather than waiting for a once-a-day build cycle to publish the data.

You can read more about the improved features and the differences between the old and new IMDbPro site here: http://pro.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?proredesignchanges

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the new site. As always if you have any more suggestions or feature requests, we'd love to hear them - please let us know via the IMDbPro ideas section on Get Satisfaction: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/categories/imdb_imdbprocom?topic-list [settings][sort_on]=me_too_count&topic-list[settings][type]=idea

Are all the boards going to be unavailable under the new Pro design?

I can still read comments on this board under Pro at http://pro.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/threads/ but I can't reply to any

Are all the boards going to be unavailable under the new Pro design? The boards will be completely removed from the Pro interface in 30 days, sorry. This change does not affect any of the boards on the main IMDb site at http://www.imdb.com/.

I can still read comments on this board under Pro at http://pro.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/threads/ but I can't reply to anyYes, this is so people can copy / save anything they need before the Pro specific boards are closed.

I don't understand the logic behind this decision. If someone pays to use Pro, should they have to go back to the consumer site to use the message boards? I would think that a paying customer ought to have access to everything that a non-paying user has access to.

http://pro.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/threads/ isn't a Pro-specific board. It's this board, Contributors Help, just being viewed via the Pro site.

I would think that a paying customer ought to have access to everything that a non-paying user has access to.Sadly there are other features - lists specifically come to mind - that were already unavailable in Pro.

edited to add: Huh, I now see that, in theory, lists are available on Pro. In practice though the "My Lists" link under my username in Pro leads to a page telling me I have no lists. Given that I have 29 lists on the regular site that's a bit disconcerting.

Thanks for the feedback. We can clarify this point:If someone pays to use Pro, should they have to go back to the consumer site to use the message boards? I would think that a paying customer ought to have access to everything that a non-paying user has access to.IMDbPro is a service aimed at people in the entertainment industry. It has never offered a super-set of everything on the regular IMDb. The new IMDbPro has been very carefully designed and tested based upon both feedback from subscribers and an analysis of features which people actually use. Some of the key themes of the redesign have been simplicity and efficiency and, unfortunately, the boards did not make the list of essential features. Sorry.

May I suggest that the Pro site post a FAQ page telling Pro users what other features are available on the consumer site, so they can find them if they are looking for them?

On a related note, looking on the Pro site, I couldn't find a way to find all the certifications (parental advisory/censorship ratings) for a film. I can find that on the consumer site, but not on Pro. If this is something that has been intentionally left out of Pro, it ought to go on the FAQ.
