A little help in identifying an actor...

Last year, my husband and I met a gentleman at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe last year. A very tall actor, maybe 6'3?? EXTREMELY NICE LOOKING! He said had worked with Rock Hudson and filmed at least 1 western in Colorado. He had a super huge dog with him...he also said he was neighbors in California with George BRett. I knew he looked familiar but didn't want to insult him by asking for his name! Any help would be appreciated!
