"Arrival' best movie since "Contact"?

Please tell me this is incorrect.
Reading this more than once after only partially skimming over the user review subject titles has all but killed my desire to see this movie.
Yes believe it or not there are many people who thought "Contact" was a lousy movie.

More like a revisit to Slaughter House 5

I think it pisses God off when you walk by the color purple in a field and don't notice it

I thought Contact was excellent, though not without flaws.

Arrival is better though, IMO.

Except for the ending, I really liked Contact, but Arrival is much better despite the wacky extreme interpretation of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis ultimately turning into pseudo-science.

I'm one of them. I liked it when it came out and I was the typical teenager who just read Richard Dawkins and thought he had everything figured out. Today, I find it ridiculous.

I don't think Contact was lousy, but it was sure sluggish at times. Way too much love story in that mix. I don't care how cute the producers thought Matthew McConaughey was! I also think "Arrival" suffered from an over sappiness quota. Between Jeremy Reiner's stumbling dolt persona and Amy Adams red-headed ice queen stare, I thought the squids were much more loveable creatures And the trying to learn a language sequences were draggy as hell. Okay. Interesting process I'm sure. But not that interesting. I'm glad I didn't have to watch the keyboardist practice the Close Encounters theme for 20 minutes. That was coupled with the ultimate "IT'S WAR" cliche with the aliens and the BIG COUNTDOWN -- that element moved "Arrival" right into the b-picture realm where it shouldn't have been. Everybody loves this Dennis director as the great new auteur and he turned in a Nolanesque puff piece that broke ground on Earth Vs The Flying Saucers and not "2001."

Not a big fan of either film.

Contact was OK. I love Carl Sagan, he is one of my favorite
people may he rest in peace, but Contact was a bit tedious and
preachy.

"Contact" is a masterpiece but I'm not a fan of "Arrival". Some people overrate it to the point of delusion
