Seeing American Psycho on B'way in April!

I'll be there 4 days, 3 nights and am seeing 3 operas at the Met but had Sunday evening free. Out of the few shows that have Sunday evening performances, American Psycho was the one that appealed to me most (and still had affordable tickets easily available!) I hadn't seen the movie in a long time so I watched that again the other night and now, after that and reading more about the original London production and listening to some excerpts of Duncan Sheik's 1980s synth-electropop score, I am really looking forward to it!

I would give my left nut to see it! I hope it does well enough that it tours! I could go to NYC again to see it .... but boy has it over gotten expensive to go!!

I really really enjoyed it. Benjamin Walker gave a great performance as Patrick Bateman and the staging was very vivid, graphic and fun. I really liked Duncan Sheik's music but the libretto was cheesy to downright campy at times; but with characters like these and a time like the peak of the 80s, it's kinda to be expected. It kinda lost some steam about 3/4 of the way through when they tried to tie up some loose ends with his secretary Jean and his mom, but it still was a great night at the theater.

Along with the show opener and the awesome Act 1 finale "Hip to be Square" murder of Paul Owen, "Killing Spree" is my favorite song from it. This recording does not do it justice though. It was so high energy with explosive choreography, booming bass, and amazing lights I almost wanted to get up and dance like I was at a club.

Oh thanks for the clip. I will have to give it a listen. So glad you enjoyed it. I hope it's a big enough hit that it tours. It's a little more "off-beat" than most that tour... but hey American Idiot did! 

Lots of complaints today that it didn't get more Tony nominations. I wish it had. Now I'm worried about how long it will run.

Yeah, it was a bit of a letdown for me to see it didn't get many noms. With Hamilton in the mix and dominating everything, I was not expecting many - but I definitely think Benjamin Walker got snubbed for a Best Actor in a Musical nom. He was riveting and really did a great job.

Oh well, at least there's Best Scening Design and Best Lighting nominations. (The lighting in it was incredible.) And it did get a ton of Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle noms. so there's that!

It's closing June 5th - a lot earlier than I thought it would. Oh well! I am even more glad I got the chance to see it!

Well that's a damn shame. I guess it's just too off-beat to run for years. I sure hope I can see it someday... somewhere.
