"23 Paces to Baker Street" questions

The whole movie hinged on us believing that Mr. Evans was a man. But Janet the nurse had worked for him before, sat shoulder to shoulder with him, smelled his powerful perfume, and called him, Mr. Evans. How could she not know this was a woman?

When Janet was calling Van Johnson from the phone box she was afraid to meet him and wanted to send her father. But she sounded frightened - "Not now! In an hour!!" What's the difference?

When Van Johnson was taken to the bombed-out building, he couldn't tell the outside wall was missing until he stood on the edge? He couldn't feel the breeze, smell the air, hear street noises?

Did they ever say how long he had been blind? Did it happen in the war?

How did Mr. Pillings figure in all this?

The kidnapped girl's family didn't know she was missing until the police showed up??

Was a ransom demand ever sent?

How did Van J. expect Bob to take a photo of Miss MacDonald without a camera? And when she got her picture taken from a distance of about 3 feet, she didn't even react??

Could the police have been any dumber?

Thanks!
