La La Land - your opinions

I was disappointed by it, though I so wanted to like it going in. It is a very downbeat movie and I expected something different.

I don't know. Just felt the main characters had no chemistry together. Couldn't name one song that was memorable. But I understand a lot of people like it a lot. Would like to hear from them the reasons why. I must have missed something.

Trust your own opinion. If it fell short for you, how could anyone else 'add to' to help change your mind? Unless you don't trust yourself and your gut.

You didn't miss anything, if you didn't like it you didn't like it. The effects/sets and the way the cinematography was done was a big reason people liked it. I think the consensus is you're quite wrong about the chemistry part, that's just really on you and your interpretation of it. And the songs part, well if someone doesn't like a band you can't really explain to them how to like it, it's just not appealing to your ears. If you don't like death metal no amount of explaining is going to turn you into a headbanging metalhead.

I thought it was okay. I don't think it deserves 14 Oscar nominations.

reply

Exactly. Meh. Why all the fuss?

reply

"Okay" is my review as well, I must admit I was bored at times. It's not only 14 Oscar nominations, La La Land landed 11 BAFTA nominations as well!

Meh, but really sorry for the horrible F Up at the Oscars. That was very cruel.

I go along with the opinion it was "okay". Quite a predictable, and mediocre plot, totally forgettable music (despite constant playing of one number) and generally aceptable performances.

It didnt deserve the praise it received, or the number of nominations, but because it was somewhat joyful and bright, I guess Hollywood took to it to salve their feelings after Hilary tanked.

LOL, Mosko! Yeah, the high school wood libs are in a bad way now. :-)

I thought it was a lively, fun movie.

That obscenely lengthy "musical" in the traffic jam in the opening scene turned me off BADLY. I watched the next several scenes, only to feel that it was lame, so I turned it off and placed the DVD back in it's sleeve for return (I'm a DVD.com/Netflix subscriber.)

The very lame opening scene virtually turned me off from the rest of the whole movie. I mean FOR REAL.
