OT) Anyone here from the original IMDb FG circa 2005-09

I used to be a regular there myself around that time, posting originally as jerrymaguirenator, then rotating through several aliases (Sidearm of Groovy, DostoevskysCat and more) but always (usually) keeping the "Jerry" monicker. Time, tide and circumstance have turned most of that time into distant memories (and random online archives), but for some reason I find myself reminiscing about those days. If anyone around here remembers the days of Bap, Slurry, SamanthaLaneKelly, Rothko, CapVanHalen, Spike, Ironic, InspectorDC, Shalomalot and... er... all the others... Please reply.

You might want to try General Discussion as well with this request Jerry. There's people from all over IMDb who check in there to see what's what these days.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I posted there in 08-09ish.

Did we ever hang out?

I don't think so.

Wanna... hang out now... or in future... or be enemies? Or whatever...

Hey there, Jerry. I too remember several of the names you mentioned. Thems were some fun times in the IMDB boards. I posted there as well, under this exact same name. As much as MovieChat has carried over from IMDB, it would be nice to be able to explore our own post history from back then. Eh, you get what you pay for...

Hi Fred,

KthΓ— for the response. Sorry for the late reply πŸ˜ͺ

You know, your name rings a bell. Bear in my mind, the recesses of my mind would make M.C. Escher confukd...

The Film General days were the some of the best days of my youth... getting to talk crap about my fave topic (back then) with people who knew as much as (or more) about it as I did. I miss not having to dumb down my film lingo, having to explain who... say, Conrad L. Hall or Miklos Rosza were (are?) or having endless raving debates about whether someone is an "auteur" or not, which movie is overrated (or underrated) and how Brian De Palma is better at Hitchcock than Hitchcock...

*sigh*

There's no message board that compares.

πŸ˜πŸ˜‘

I think I'll go start one.

Standby.

You got me thinking about this guy's rant about IMDb shutting down the message boards. Not the best move by them, and I bet they lost a LOT of traffic. Oh, well.

I'm a David Lynch fan and his movies are so loaded with symbolism and metaphor that there were, and are, endless discussions. You Tube is full of them. The IMDb message boards for his material were voluminous, and vitriolic. But I sure miss them. There was one fellow there that was loaded with theories and he got in so many arguments that he quit for a time (I'm talking about a span of 5 or so years). So people started asking about him. Sure enough he got back on there, but with some caveats that he explained. Fun stuff ! There were several others who also posted involved messages. One guy was 000X.... something, I forget. But his posts were so involved often people didn't reply because there was so much stuff.

This guy in the YT video mentions TheMovieDB. And this site is ostensibly an archive of IMDb. But neither has near the traffic that the old IMDb message boards did. Maybe after awhile but I'm skeptical. That said, I still look at IMDb, the birthdays, Coming Soon, Movie News, Photos We Love and I look up the occasional item. But Like the guy says, it's just not the same.

I remembered the Lynch fellow's name, XXPO. He had a lot of theories about 'Inland Empire'.

Funny how the memory works, at first I just drew a blank but when I woke this morning the name was one of the first things I thought of.

Yes, I do. I used the same username I have here now and remember all those names you listed. A few years ago they invited me to a chat room a few of them would use after the boards got bad. I hadn't used them myself in a while so it was sweet that they remembered me. I lost the page though somewhere and still regret it. Hope some of them are around here now.
