Looking for a film about a psychiatrist and a female patient (details in the description)

Hello to everyone and thanks in advance. Sorry for grammar mistakes, I was born and live in Europe.

I am looking for a film (either cinematic/TV/direct-to-video) with the following description for a decade now:
– genre: thriller (NOT horror and there isn’t anything supernatural in it)
– I have seen it in 2007 or before (certainly not later, most likely 2004-2006), so some of my descripton might not be perfect
– the TV station that was showing it usually has Lifetime of Hallmark made-for-TV titles at that time (early afternoon) nowadays, so the same thing was maybe true 15-20 years ago, when this film was shown
– the psychiatrist tries either to make a woman confess some crime or to put her in a mental hospital
– he actually succeds in puting her into the hospital. I think (actually mostly certain) she was put into straightjacket or tied to a hospital bed in one scene, or was at least heavily sedated
– I THINK the psychiatrist also tried to turn the woman against her husband (it is possible she was in some way romanticly involved with the psychiatrist). It is also possible that the psychiatrist was some kind of abusive husband and the other guy her lover/good friend. In any case, there were two male characters connected with the woman (the psychiatrist and the other guy)
– also, I am quite sure the other guy kills the psychiatrist or puts him in a mental hospital at the end
– I am not sure about the year of release or the country. However, as I have seen it in mid-2000s, and it looked relatively new back then, my guess would be 1990-2005, and I am almost certain that it was in English

Some people suggested “Final Analysis” (1992). I have seen that film and it is 100% NOT the one in question. Same with “Gothika”.

Reminds me a bit of 'Before I Go to Sleep' (2014) but that was made later than you stated.

reply

Thank You for the answer, but certainly not. I asked about this film in 2013 on one non-English language forum and stated that I have seen it "6-7 years ago".

Raising Cain (1992) John Lithgow.... just throwing darts...

reply

Thank You for the suggestion, but not it either. I have looked at the online copy of the film and it's not it. Plus, the film is more violent than what could be shown i early afternoon.
Nevetheless, it actually has some elements of the film I had in question, but I am confident there wasn't any split personalities and I clearly remember few scenes not in this film.

Reminds me of an episode of Tales from the crypt called Mute witness to murder.

reply

Thank You very much, but it is not it. The episode is available online, so I took a look. It certainly has some elements that were present in my mysterious film, but I am confident the film I had in mind was feature-length and there was a scene in the begining that I remember very clearly, since it involves a house (either the woman's or the psychiatrist's) similar to one in neighbourhood I lived at the time and I would immeadiately recognise it.

However, I like all those recomendation topics, since they sometimes introduce me (and others) to some films/TV shows that might even be better than the one I am asking.

One last question to all. Since I think the most likely sollution is that it is a made-for-TV crime/thriller from mid/late-90s, is there any place, forum or something like that, where I can ask about it?

There are only four mysterious films from my pre-teen years that I can't identify and also this is the one of the two I can possibly identify (I remember very, very little from two of them), so I am really trying hard to do it.

It sounds somewhat like ""Side Effects" but that was 2013....

reply

Thanks for the answer, but, as I wrote, I posted a question about this film for the first time in 2013 and wrote that I saw it "6-7 years ago".

reply

Sounds a bit like In Dreams .... but I would class that as supernatural as it has a psychic-dream storyline. Still sort of fits all your points though.

reply

Somehow missed this answer a year ago. However, sadly, it is not the film in question.

He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not (2003, France)?

reply

Sadly, it's not the one. But thank You

I reread your description and I think I remember this from "Closet Land" (1991) with Alan Rickman and Madeleine Stowe. It's on Youtube

It's not the one, but it seems to eb an interesting film. Thank You for Your effort.

I am now almost certain that it was a TV movie, probably from mid-90s to very early-00s. In my searches, I found several TV films with similar idea, but none of them were the film in question :(

Maybe "Dying to Remember" (TV Movie) from 1993?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106785/?ref_=kw_li_tt

A woman goes to a psychiatrist because she is plagued by recurring nightmares. The psychiatrist tells her that she was involved in a murder in San Francisco in a past life, and the nightmares are related to that crime. She enlists the help of two San Francisco police officers to help solve the old murder.

This is a very nice guess, but it is not it :(
It doesn't have the scene in the asylum (mental hospital), which I remember, and the house that I clearly remember is not in it. Plus, the psychiatrist looks quite a bit different than Jay Robinson looks in this film.

Thanks very much in any case. I think a TV film from the similar yearspan is the answer.

reply

I think that I remember similar movie. I will search in my database.
