(SOLVED) trying to remember the name of a movie i watched when i was younger please help!

okay so i literally barely remember anything about the movie other than it was either from the late 80’s or early 90’s & i think the main characters were a black man & a little boy. i can’t remember anything about the plot unfortunately. i’m really sorry that’s barely anything but it’s been killing me trying to remember. :/

Do you remember if the story took place in contemporary times, or was it historical fiction? Was the young boy also black?

It’s listed as a foreign name , but it’s called “The Friend” I saw it when I was young myself
