SOLVED: My Side of the Mountain (1969)

I don't remember the name of the film, but watched it a few times in grade school (mid 90's).

It's an American film, about a boy that runs away from home "to live off the fat of the land like Thor". The boy want's to be a survivalist, in other words.

The b plot of the film is about his parents getting a divorce and/or fighting a lot.

The boy ends up doing what he planned out to do. Surviving in a forest, and either finds or burns out a tree for shelter before he is 'rescued'.

I pretty sure it's not 'The Hatchet' or it's "what if" sequel book.

Hi RoboReCop,
you could try this: If you know the title of another movie which has a "survival" plot like the one which you are missing, try and enter it at IMDB's search mask - very probably there will pop up several "user lists" of "survival movies" (like, e.g. Swiss Family Robinson, etc.); or the movie might appear in the section called "more like this"...
Do you recall the boy actor's character name? then IMDB's database might lead to the right movie - provided he hadn't an all too common name.
I'm afraid these few hints might not help you much - but if they do, all the better...
In any case the plot sounds interesting! :-)
Kind regards

Hi Andreas,

Thank you for your helpful tips; I will use them when the next unforgotten film/show pops in my head :)

I totally don't remember character names at all, but @SomeCodhoper (below) seems to have found the film title- "My Side of the Mountain (1969).

Thank for all your help, and warm regards,

It's available through YouTube Movies. Not sure of the cost:

Hello Robo ReCop,
glad you found the movie! And I think I should indeed spend some money for a multi-region player now... "My Side of the Mountain" seems to be just another one which is available in region 1 only...
I would like to mention just two other examples which keep annoying me: "Misunderstood", 1984, with Gene Hackman; I liked very much the performance of Henry Thomas - and his little brother was played by another young actor whose name I just can't recall at the moment - this one I know only by way of a b**tl*g, and I also have an old NTSC cassette which does play BUT only in b/w; there's NO official release on disc outside region 1.
And I'm also searching for one of the most obscure movies the great James Garner - I LOVE his performances as Det. Rockford :-) ever made: "One Little Indian", 1973. Is that just another "Western"? I don't think so; it seems the movie had some very unusual plot elements. AND there was Clay O'Brian, one of those numerous "one time on screen and then never again" young actors ;-) I saw lots of movie stills; but again, there's no other release than the one made in the U.S.
I think I'll have to cut my monthly "budget" for old books about history (another hobby of mine) and for the surplus I'll buy a machine that can play "everything"!
For me, youtube isn't a good alternative; I prefer to have some "media" (disc, cassette, whatever) for my collection... I'm old-fashioned, you see :-)
Kind regards
Andreas
