Western I need help with

Just started watching Cowboys & Aliens earlier tonight and a scene from a popped in my head and I thought maybe it was in that since, obviously, I was watching it. Well, turns out it wasn't and now I am just racking my brain trying to remember. Whatever it is, the guy, our hero wasn't home and what was probably his wife and kid need to hide in a hole in the floor but the badguys still find them. Not very specific, I know. But it's just driving me crazy. Anyone have an idea?
