I WIN the prize for the MOST UNSOLVABLE thread in IMDb history!!!...

I saw this sometime between the years of 1984 and the spring of 93. Most-likely this was 1984 - 7. I believe it was probably brand-new when it aired on network US tv during prime-time. While it could have possibly been a theatrical production its values looked more like a tv production. I remember it having an ultramodern look and feel to it. I'm sure because of the vocoder that it was likely a science-fiction film and might or might not have also been post-apocalyptic. Again, I'm not sure if the chase scene is or isn't from the same feature.

Two people are being interrogated by a group of people who are all dressed-up and disguised in black and red outfits with hoods and masks. The interrogation scene was done in a dark circular metallic room as I recall. Their leader speaks into a microphone that disguises his voice by using an old vintage classic analog hardware vocoder which makes his voice sound similar to the Cylon Centurions from the original Battlestar Galactica.

There may or may not also have been a scene involving a pickup being chased by (a) motorcycle/s, or a motorcycle being chased by a pickup. There's a roadway mountain tunnel entrance in this scene.

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

reply

Couldn't be "V" or the series.

reply

Thanks! I kept forgetting to include that as not being it.

reply

whats a vocoder?

reply

It's an electronic device that distorts the human voice and makes it sound robotic and gurgly. Often used by R&B artists, and to make people sound like robots.

reply

The (musical) device that singers and voice-actors use if they need to sound like a talking or singing robot or computer. It's what the voice-actor Mr. Michael Santiago used to make his voice for the Cylon Centurions in the original-series version of 'Battlestar Galactica' (1978-9).

The Avengers (1961)?
The New Avengers (1976)?
The Prisoner (1967)?

reply

Thank you very-much for your suggestions! However, it would be none of those three as the vocoder (while invented in 1928) wasn't used as a musical or film/tv application until the late 60s, early 70s period (this by itself eliminates 1). And the manufacturers of the one I heard didn't start production until 1975 (which eliminates the other two) and afterwards.

Also I highly doubt that The New Avengers (1976) would've been shown on American network tv during prime-time. That would be more of a WTTW or small channel thing here in the States.

Do feel free to give me other suggestions as long as there between the years of 1975 and 1993. Better still between 1983 and 1993 with between 1983 and 1987 being the best and most-likely. Thanks again!!

If you know the manufacturer and model of said vocoder why not include it in your description? May help narrow things down.
