The REAL reason the boards are closing!

IMDB are owned by Amazon who now make and supply TV and films. Of course, Amazon don't want their content being criticised by viewers, so it's obvious that the messaging boards are getting axed.

They are also under pressure from producers (who pay a hefty subscription to IMDB), for the same reason.

In addition, too many people are requesting DVD's from other users (piracy). As Amazon see this as their territory, it's another good reason for them to dispose of the boards and messaging system.

In the end it's all about MONEY! Amazon could not careless about the ordinary user if they can't make any income from the boards. The pity is, they have to lie and make up stories about why the boards are disappearing.

Sadly, it's the ordinary users that made IMDB successful and in return Amazon have given us the giant middle finger!

Instead of shutting boards down, IMDB should have just hired more moderators or used an automatic content filter to delete inaprpriate or illegal content posts. Why do us long standing memebers have to be punished by what was a fun and informative interactive site by shutting us all out from it completely!

I agree with you, Ginger42256. I don't post very often, but I do access the message boards frequently to read comments and responses to questions. I am so disappointed by this move. :-(

Agree, a great shame as IMDB boards are the first place I come to to find comments and info on films both old and new. I know there is a lot of abuse but you can scroll on by. So will we be unable to see all the historical comments?

reply

The boards will be removed completely. You will not be able to read historical comments unfortunately.

I also agree, Ginger42256, Ddugam42,and Mastermum. Just try make the boards more appropriate, you don't have to delete it, Mr.COL NEEDHAM!

I will miss the message boards! I love reading people's comments after I have watched a movie. Please reconsider!!

What a travesty! This reminds me of when Ancestry bought out Genealogy so that they could monopolize genealogy research. Disgusting. It began when they started deleting huge section of discussion. Now, they are going to muzzle public opinion altogether.

Well, good-bye to IMDb. They've betrayed their long-time loyal viewers/users. It's not our fault that they refused to hire enough staff to take care of the boards. That's been their problem for years.

Another good website shot to Hades in service of AVARICE, GREED, AND VAUNTING EGOS.

I don't give a flying fig for what producers and directors think. They've been airing crappy shows for a decade without regard for what the viewing public thinks. I have a large collection of VHS, DVD, and DVR. I shall now resort to those when I want entertainment.

Nasty.

Somewhere, somebody is being paid big bucks to write that BS blurb about why IMDb is getting rid of the boards. LMAO!
