Anyone catch this plot hole?

One of the recorders they were using on the island was a Sony. However the movie took place in the 70s and Sony wasn't around yet. Of course the biggest plot hole of them all is that no creatures get that big as they were on the island but thats for another discussion topic

Another person who doesn't understand the definition of a plot hole...

"In fiction, a plot hole, plothole or plot error is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot.[1] Such inconsistencies include statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline."

Your first comment would be a historical inaccuracy that has nothing to do with the plot. Not that it matters, because it's wrong anyway. Sony has been around since the 1950s.

Your second comment is also not a plot hole... and irrelevant. The ENTIRE POINT of the movie is the giant monsters which requires the willing suspension of disbelief necessary to accept EVERY sci-fi / action movie ever made.

reply

Your 1st point is valid. It is more of a historical inaccuracy. However the 2nd point is a plot hole and you better defined it for me. Giant monsters as shown on the island cannot exist within todays physics and laws of nature. Thank you for better clarifying that plot hole

reply

"Giant monsters as shown on the island cannot exist within todays physics and laws of nature."

True. Similarly, all those giant bugs in those 1950s radioactive insects movies -- Them, Tarantula, The Deadly Mantis... -- couldn't exist either for the same reasons.

These are scientific inaccuracies. Not plot holes.

Its very frustrating sometimes on these boards when a poster has no idea what a plot hole means

reply

Which would be you. Time travel, vampires, laser guns, death stars and wookies don't exist either but they're not plot holes.

reply

You are replying back to me from a post 10 months ago. I now know what a plot hole is

reply

Well done. I just watched the move so I'm now looking at the boards.

reply

And you have missed the point. A plot hole is gap or inconsistency in the flow of logic ESTABLISHED BY THE FILM! In this film, and in this universe, such giant creatures are possible. It is established in the film that this is so. So it is not a plot hole anymore than FTL flight is a plot hole in an SF film or balrogs are a plothole in the Lord of the Rings.

Thanks for clarifying

For your information: Sony opened their first US factory in 1972 in San Diego. There, they mostly produced Trinitron TVs, but this shows, they had already a big enough presence to have their own factory. So it is also possible that a Sony recorder was around back then. Especially considering that the movie is somewhere set in the South East Asian region, a region dominated by Japanese tech companies.

And regarding big monsters. Come on, that's the fun of the movie.

When I watch a movie, I want to be like a documentary. Otherwise I will point out all the plot holes

reply

Before you do that, educate yourself on what a plot hole is.
