Did Hanus Do This on Purpose?

I’m talking about when he told Jakob that he only thought that maybe our kind (humans) were selfish, but then he told Jakob that “No, it is YOU who are” and he really put him down and in his place and then he told poor Jakob that he was leaving him. Was this done purposely to get Jakob to change the things about himself that Hanus wished or did Hanus really believe what he was saying and did he intend to leave on purpose?

I’m not sure if the whole thing was another one of his “efforts” on his part to help Jakob but once more I’m not sure if he meant it personally or not but what do you guys think? I like to think that it was and that he wouldn’t be that cruel to Jakob but again what do you all think?
