Richard Lewis ??? Is the guy OK?

I remember Lewis from decades ago when I used to think
he was pretty funny. I liked Richard Lewis. A far cry from
the Richard Lewis I am seeing on CYE this year. I noticed
this episode ( which was probably the best one this season
so far) that Lewis never smiled, and then I got a glimpse
that looked like he has a missing upper tooth? Can this
poor guy really be so insolvent that he cannot afford dental
work? Is it positive or negative that a lot of producers find
stars that are down on their luck and exploit them for low
pay. Could that be what is happening here, or is Lewis
just fine with his bit on CYE?

Larry David and Richard Lewis have known each other for years. I thought Lewis looked very old this season also but he has lived a rough life and time hasn’t treated him kind. I didn’t notice a tooth missing but I don’t think Larry David would cast him for any reason other than they are long time friends and enjoy working together.

reply

".. time hasn’t treated him kind. "

"Kindly" or "well", not "kind".

reply

And sentences should have a subject and verb too.

reply

Lewis is an elderly man who has dealt with depression and alcoholism his entire life. He's not going to look well.

reply

No he doesn't, but I doubt he is any older then Larry David.

reply

"He's not going to look well."

"..going to look good", "..going to look like he's well", but not "going to look well".

What's wrong with people's command of the english language?

reply

What I wrote was grammatically correct.

reply

You're actually correct. Richard Lewis has had a lot of difficulty in life. You can't do the things he did and look good forever. However, concerning the friendship - it's sincere. Larry and Richard have been very close friends for around 5 decades. The fact that Larry looks so much healthier is simple as well. Larry David always lived a very healthy lifestyle and Richard Lewis didn't. I believe (although don't quote me) they are the same age. If not, they are very close in age (you can quote me on that).

reply

I agree that Larry David’s friendship with Richard Lewis is sincere. I am just stating a grammatical fact.

reply

You know I didn't actually have issue with grammatical errors. I was corroborating this:

"Lewis is an elderly man who has dealt with depression and alcoholism his entire life. He's not going to look well."

You're exactly right.

reply

The bottom line with respect to communication is - does the speaker's or writer's meaning get transmitted faithfully.

reply

That's descriptivism, which is just an excuse for half-assed writing.

reply

You're way past your intellectual level.

reply

He was not alright.

reply

Now you've done it.
