It's just another example of style over substance and goes against what made the original 1968 movie superior. Which is a shame because some of the supporting actors are good, the ape costumes are unique, and at least it's visually impressive for a movie that came out in 2001. If only the entire movie wasn't that terrible.

I remember actually liking the twist at the end.

Yeah, it's a good twist in terms of concept, but that wasn't enough to save this remake.

I wouldn't it a twist as it was a pretty obvious once the general went back in time. And the "twist" didn't make sense as he would gone far enough back to impact evolution.

The original (1968) is the best one, but this remake is also interesting and entertaining.

The remake does have good ideas, I'll give it that. The only problem is it detracts from the original's concept by inserting typical action sequences and feels too fantasy-esque than you know an original sci-fi movie.

I see your point, nevertheless the remake must not be exactly the same as the original. As above mentioned, the fist one is the best but I can enjoy both.
