Interesting Hughes was furious with Molly Ringwald for turning this down

According to the trivia section. Yet he had turned her down for Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Kind of makes it seem like he thought it was okay to turn someone down but it wasn't okay for them to turn him down.

The man was a genius, but likely difficult to work with on some level. They all are.

reply

Glad she turned him down. the best Hughes films were the ones without Molly.

reply

Lol its quite the oposite. Skow beats all brat pack together in every topic

reply

Huges wanted to do pretty in pink again as the studio made him change the ending. But he did make up with her before his passing

to be honest i did not like this film, because this might have been the first time in this kind of films, where i found the tomboy chick to be too ugly to make up for that with personality. now, putting a supercutie like molly into the opposing role, would have just made things worse for me.

reply

Ugly? Really? Wow.

reply

honestly, yes. just nio my taste and i am guy that a) likes tomboy chicks quite a lot and is b) bi-sexual on top of that and c) even digs girlish boys. just a matter of personal taste. i surely would have liked her as a friend, but she surely is a boner killer to me, personally. i liked the supposed pretty one lea thompson in back to the future, but in this one i did not find her to be exceptionally tempting either. now, if replaced with molly the whole movie would have made even less sense to me.

Yep, Hughes did have to have his way or it was the highway. He mostly was a very good guy but when you're trying to be successful in Hollywood it turns you into somewhat of a monster. In the end, Hughes left Hollywood mostly for good when his good friend John Candy died. Hughes did not want his children to grow up around Hollywood people who he blamed for Candy's death.

reply

Actually, most of the actors and actresses who worked with Hughes during his heyday talk about how atypically willing he was to accept input from not just the performers but even the people behind the scenes.

reply

That's good to know. I saw an interview with Ed O'Neil(Married With Children) where he recalled how nice and friendly John Hughes was during the filming of Dutch, Ed was practically one of his family, eating dinner at his house, making plans for a movie about a rock band in Youngstown, etc. Well, after Dutch opened and didn't do too well Hughes would not take his calls or communicate with him in any way, EVER. All those plans obviously thrown in the trash, along with his friendship.
Ed eventually went on David Letterman and when John Hughes was brought up Ed said "John Hughes is a great guy, but if I ever got in trouble in a bar I wouldn't want to be with John Hughes"

Was Molly supposed to play Amanda or Watts?

Keith’s younger sister is a Molly Ringwald lookalike. Her character is like Molly’s characters in other Hughes films too.

reply

I think Watts
