Do you consider Lucas a sports movie?

Hey, will you guys settle an argument I'm currently having with a twat buddy of mine? He claims Lucas is a sports movie only because there's a little football in it, and because of the poster. I strongly disagree and feel that it's much more than that and shouldn't be thrown into that category.

What's your opinion?

reply

I'll have to side with your buddy on this one: Lucas can safely be classified as a sports film.

reply

Lol TDigs, JMT, you too rascals. Always getting into trouble.

And I'm with JMT on this one, Lucas is definitely more than just a sports film, it's very clearly a coming-of-age/adolescence film as well.

reply

It's amazing how small of a world it is...

It's half sports movie, half "coming of age", as X put it.

reply

whats a twat buddy?.. oh and its not a sports film; its a coming-of-age film.

reply

Twat is just a synonym for idiot or fool, basically a variation of the word "twit."

And I don't consider Lucas a sports movie, as others have said, it's a coming of age movie. Nobody calls American Pie a sports movie just because one of the principals plays lacrosse.

I know who I am! I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!

reply

Twat is a bit more than that. It is a synonym for vagina but in a derogatory slang sense.

reply

Just wanna point out that your usage is the American usage. The other poster was explaining the British usage. Which just means idiot.

reply

No it’s not a sports movie. Although Lucas does use the football team as a vehicle for gaining Maggie’s acceptable. But he doesn’t do that until more than halfway through the movie. Lucas is actually in band!

reply

I'd say a Sports movie that the main plot is about someone that wants to do good in sports, or about a team working together to win the games.

I feel that the only reason Lucas is even involved with sports is because he wants to impress the girl. The girl just wants to be a cheerleader to impress the jock. Not sure what to make of the Jock.

The movies main focus is people accepting Lucas for who he is, and for him to accept that he can only be friends with the cheerleader. He also finds out that its better to be with a girl that likes him for him romantically and not try to become or change someone to like him.

The sports is more of a tool for the story and not the point of the story.

Could have been a sports movie, but the football was so bad and unrealistic, let's call it a nice and touching coming-of-age movie that has football in it.

I think even Fast Times at Ridgemont High is more of a sports movie. Football had less screentime, but was more memorable (Forest Whitaker was awesome) than in Lucas.

reply

dont forget there was a few minutes of tennis thrown in.. hoping to God i'd get a peek at Maggie's cute cotton panties..

reply

No, it isn't for sure. Like you said there's a little football scene in it.
This movie is Comedy-Romance-Drama genre.

Lucas is not a sports movie, even though they do focus on football, that's just part of it. It's also a coming of age movie about a kid who's basically a loner, who falls in love with an older girl who just wants to be friends. I do feel bad for Lucas but this movie really proves that sometimes you are going to like someone romantically, they don't feel the same way, and they just want to be friends. I have had that experience several times myself so I can understand how Lucas is very upset when Maggie only likes him as a friend. He learns the hard way that you don't always get what you want in life.

reply

No. It's a movie with sports in it, but it's not a sports movie.

reply

No way its a sport movie.

Its that man again!!

reply

It looked like a drama chick flick movie to me when I first watched it. It does have people playing sports in it but it's not really a sports movie.

reply

No. And neither is Caddyshack but they are both good movies.
