Double Feature DVD

I just bought the DVD of this; it's double billed with the Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. I was wondering why they didn't just use the original double featured pairs for the various DVDs?

Examples:

Frankenstein Created Woman was originally double billed with The Mummy's Shroud, but it's now with Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires.

Dracula, Prince of Darkness was originally double billed with Rasputin, the Mad Monk, but it's now with The Satanic Rites of Dracula.

The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires was originally double billed with Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter, but, as previously stated, it's now with Frankenstein Created Woman.

My question is: Why couldn't they just double bill the movies (on DVD) with their original theatrical double bill releases?

Also, did anyone watch the World of Hammer episode included with FCW? It's called The Curse of Frankenstein, and basically shows clips of each of Hammer's Frankenstein movies. However, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed wasn't featured at all, but the awful Horror of Frankenstein was! Moreover, on a separate episode, "Peter Cushing," (not included on the DVD) the host, Oliver Reed, states that Peter Cushing played the Baron five times for Hammer, but in reality, it was six. They seem to be leaving out Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed everywhere. Anyone know why?

The bureaucratic mentality is the only constant in the universe.

I believe they pair the more commercially viable films like Kronos and Seven Golden Vampire's with less succesful ones to make more money. Those lesser films would just be rotting on a shelf somewhere, at least this way they can add a couple of bucks to a DVD. BTW, I wasn't aware that Captain Kronos and Golden Vampires were a double feature. That must have been a great night out!

The answer is simple: Money.

Over the years, different companies have held the distribution rights on these films (theatrically, and on home video), and even those distributors could differ from country to country. For years, Paramount has had the U.S. home video rights to KRONOS, while other companies have released LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES (and its alternate cut, THE 7 BROTHERS MEET DRACULA) in the States. While Fox released Hammer's ONE MILLION YEARS BC on Region 1 DVD, the Region 2 DVD was released by another company (can't recall if it was Warner or another label) in the UK, and it uses a longer cut of the film and includes extras not found on the Region 1 DVD. Hammer Films initially intended CAPTAIN KRONOS to play as the second half of a double bill with FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL upon original release. (Which, in many areas, it did.) But some theaters and drive-ins would only lease one new film, and pair it with a film that might be a bit older. (Sometimes to save money, other times to create a theme...as in pairing KRONOS with LEGEND OF THE 7 GOLDEN VAMPIRES for a vampire double bill.) Since Anchor Bay own some of the titles intended to play as double bills, it would have been nice to have at least seen those properly paired, even if they couldn't do all of them. (FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN/THE MUMMY'S SHROUD, DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS/REVENGE OF THE ZOMBIES, RASPTIN THE MAD MONK/THE REPTILE....)

"Since Anchor Bay own some of the titles..."

Anchor Bay doesn't own any of the Hammer titles they released. The company received the rights to produce those films on DVD from the copyright owner, which I believe is still Hammer. It is reported Anchor Bay's rights to produce these films on DVD have expired.

I purchased this film on DVD as a triple feature along with Dracula: Prince of Darkness and The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires. It was only eight bucks at Target.

I got the same DVD. I realized when I started watching the film that I'd already seen it last year. I distinctly remembered watching 5 out of the 7 Hammer Frankenstein films and thought this was one of them I'd skipped, but then I started watching the movie and the memory started coming back to me. Then I came to IMDb and discovered I gave the film a 9/10 rating and posted on the message boards before. I don't know how I could've forgotten but I'm sure I won't this time.

Which Target? I didn't see it at the one by me
