Sweet Christina, fair of face: THE SONG

Throw open thy window, so I may gaze upon your beauty
An ode to the girl with the birthmarked face:

Sweet Christina, fair of face
blessed with beauty, full of grace
Lonely on your virgin bed
you'll stay a virgin
till you're dead

In your dreams, a handsome lad
comes creeping to your virgin bed
Hide your face, don't let him see
one look at it and he will ??? (laughter)

Sweet Christina, don't you cry
won't be long before you die
Then from the 'eavens, a star will fall
for the ugliest angel ...
of them all!

for the ugliest angel ...
of them all!

Didn't you just want to level those cruel ruffians? I think Hans should have gone over to the window to prove they were so wrong.

Yeah but that would have made things worse for both Hans & Christina, marking them both as adulterers, which is why Hans refuses to tell them the truth in court, that he was in bed with Christina when it happened because that would ruin what little good her reputation may have had.

But man I loved watching those 3 bastards get what they deserved.

I believe the missing word is "flee" (ie run away). Those posh gits got their just desserts!!!!

"I don't need to fight to prove I'm right. I don't need to be forgiven."

I agree completely! If there's one thing I hate it's a bully. How it would screw with your head when a pretty girl develops the voice of a dead man! :)

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

reply

They were incredibly cruel -- and not just to her.
The fact that their lies got Hans head cut off shown them as criminal.
Yes, they deserved punishment and retribution.
But it's sad that it was a sweet girl who was the instrument.

Just all-round bad guys and nasty pieces of work

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

Those guys were extremely cruel. What a horrible song to sing to someone!

I'm a totally bitchin' bio writer from Mars!

They were pure evil. Some of the most unlikable characters I've seen in a horror film in a while.

Burn, witch! Burn, witch! Burn! Burn! Burn!

As far as the ringleader (Anton) is concerned, I agree completely with the above comment. But the other two...no...Johann was in particular mislead by Anton. He was the baby of the gang wanting to impress the leader. Later in the film in the coach with Christina he comes across as charming and rather sweet, very immature.

With Karl it's more complicated, because he was more mature than Johann and Anton and should have known better, but he does show real remorse especially when Hans is found guilty, and a couple of other little things do put him in a more attractive light (I also find him very physically attractive in a brutal, thuggish sort of way, incidentally)

Regardless of Johann's immaturity and Karl's physical attraction though, seriously I do get rather depressed when they're killed, and Christina dies too...it's all death in the last 10 minutes, the only part of this great film I don't enjoy. I really do see Anton as bearing the brunt of responsibility for their collective actions. It's a shame Karl and Johann didn't turn Kaiser's evidence or whatever it was called back then against Anton...

Do you happen to know what the musical melody they're singing to is? It sounds familiar.
"My life is too much like Curb Your Enthusiasm."
