Paula Prentiss's strip tease

One of the frustrating things of watching the film is the sever truncation of Paula Prentiss' strip tease in the club. The music testifies by its abrupt lurch that a sizable section of her dance was snipped out.
What I'm wondering, are there any versions of WNP? out there that restores the dance?

Can't answer your question as to if there's an "uncensored" version out there, unfortunately, but I can at leat agree; I distinctly remember seeing a version (on reg t.v. no less!) that showed more of the strip, including a sillouhette of her nipples. I even read a review that mentioned it being "shocking" at the time.

A similar thing happens on my copy of "The Silencers," the opening strip by Sid Charice cuts before she goes "too far" and I remember her going further...on regular t.v.

How I hate censorship!!!!!!!

I remember that opening! She's dancing around a freestanding translucent panel, lit from behind. As she disrobes, she shows less and less of herself in front of the screen.
Seems to me that Chita Revera used used a similar translucent panel when she played a stripper in one of her flicks. As I recall, she got murdered on stage when the killer shot her through the screen and her nude form collapsed into view.

Paula had no problem getting naked on camera. She's got a nude scene in CATCH 22 and has a three-way with Elliot Gould and another woman in.... some flick.... Forgot the name but I have the Playboy pictorial burned into my memory!

Just fyi, if I'm right--and if yer interested--you were talking about some Chita Rivera movie where she was a stripper and all that...I THINK what you might have been talking about was Rita Moreno at the end of "Marlowe"...? Maybe? She's got a lot of blond hair, is smoking hot and does this whole routine, then gets shot like you said...I remember thinking, "THAT'S Rita Moreno??" Looked more like Ann-Margret or someone...

Anyway, sorry to get off topic, just jogged a memory...I could be wrong, too, maybe that's not what yer referring to after all--whatever...

And the mystery of the strip scenes continues...

Well, this is obviously the boys'corner here... ;-)
Any point to my saying that my favourite bit of nudity in the movie is Peter O'Toole's striptease?

Do you realise that I could slay you at any moment?

reply

Ha ha--fair enough! Dontcha think he IS a little pale and scronny tho? ;P

Just points out how much stripping there is in the flick--Ursula "Undress" goes at it too...

Ahhh, the 60's must have been so much fun...

Yep, that was "Marlowe" all right. Playboy printed pics of her in her stripper gear (what there was of it) in their "Sex in Cinema" layout. Yep, she was pretty damn hot!

I think the Prentiss flick was "I Love My Wife". I just remember the Playboy pictorial started with Elliot Gould sitting up in bed with a pleased expression as his nude costars flank him.

Never seen either. I - have - been - *CHEATED*! Officer, I wish to report a cheatery!

Paula's strip tease did indeed go farther than what's on screen. At the time of the film's release Playboy magazine did a pictorial on it and published many photos of stuff that didn't make the final cut. In my opinion Paula was never so hot in any other film.

Agreed, Paula looked great. Anyone notice that she is introduced at the famous Crazy Horse strip club as Liz B. Ann? Ooh what a giveaway for her character's orientation!

reply

Liz Bien. It's French.

You've just answered (well, 8 years ago anyway, lol) a question I've wondered about for many years. I remember seeing those same pics you mentioned, and always thought that they were available (somewhere) in a full release that hadn't been subjected to television and VHS tape editing, tinkering and censoring. I will assume now, finally, that that print does not exist of a (nearly) full length strip-tease dance by Paula Prentiss. Oh well, one more of my pipe dreams crushed. Thanks for the info...

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

reply

Well, these days it's pretty mild compared to what's out there.

*EDIT*
I don't recall the version you all are talking about. But, on the odd chance that you're right, she may have requested that that particular edit remain vaulted. It wouldn't be the first time, although I can't really see her modesty creeping in now. However, it does happen I suppose.

Paula was full frontal in CATCH-22, displaying a fine full bush.
