What is US box office ceiling for Logan for opening weekend

Logan is looking very positive from its trailers . I think it has got lot going towards it , Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart last roles plus the trailers have given an impression that it is not run of mill superhero movie , Also having x23 as female wolverine will get some female audiences. Now what do you guys think it will do in opening weekend. I think it will do 75M+ but can it breakout like Deadpool.

reply

I'd put the ceiling at about 75m but I don't see that happening.

I don't think it'll make more than $200 million, but I've been wrong before.

X-Men wolverine opened at $85,058,003 in 2009 third biggest weekend of the year, adjust close to 100 million today.

I guess R-rating could play a role but the vast majority of audience are adults for those type of movies, and people that were not born when they shot the first X-Men will be able to get in a 2017 release.

It is hard to put a ceiling lower than the highest wolverine movie, hard to put higher than Deadpool (Deadpool had little resistance, you didn't feel that you needed to have seen any previous movie in particular for this one). The answer must between the 2 at around 110, that would have put it number 7 in 2016.

No way it does more than 200 million domestic

I actually think the ceiling is far higher than most of the recent X-Men. It feels very much like a film that can be taken on its own--an easy entry point for those (like me) who stopped watching after a few films, or for those who never started watching at all.

The trailers are excellent--moody and intense, but with a compelling emotional hook. And thanks to Deadpool's smash success last February, we know that an R-rated film can do significantly more than $100mil OW, as long as it's intriguing enough for audiences.

I'm currently feeling bullish and am risking a prediction of $100mil OW. But I will not be surprised if it goes higher.
