New Immigrants Make U.S. Economy Strongest in World

"Immigrants are driving the U.S. economic boom. U.S. has escaped recession, hiring growth has exceeded expectation, and inflation has cooled faster than predicted — all largely because immigration has boosted the size of the U.S. labor force according to the Federal Reserve chair or Wall Street economists.

After a stretch of depressed immigration levels — primarily driven by Donald Trump’s hobbling of the legal immigration system — the number of immigrants coming here began to rebound mid-2021. Immigrants are more likely to be working-age than native-born Americans, so their arrivals helped solve a number of problems facing the U.S. economy.

For instance, some of our pandemic-related supply-chain woes were related to worker shortages in critical fields such as construction and food processing. An influx of new workers helped fill those vacancies and unsnarl stuck supply chains. In other cases, immigrants have been willing to take jobs that native-born Americans are unwilling to do, such as the backbreaking work of harvesting potatoes, building homes and caring for the elderly. They’re also filling high-tech positions that Americans cannot do because there are insufficient numbers of us with the necessary skills. And they are creating entirely new job opportunities by launching new businesses — something immigrants do at much higher rates than the native-born.

And then there are the jobs we native-born Americans might theoretically be willing and able to fill, but there simply aren’t enough of us around to fill them. The arithmetic is clear: Boomers are retiring and U.S. birthrates have plummeted. Absent immigration, the U.S. working-age population would be either flat or soon shrinking.

As a result, all of the new job growth since the pandemic, on net, has been due to foreign-born workers. That is, if you stripped away immigrants, there would be no more people employed today than was the case before covid.

Native-born Americans are less likely to be in the workforce today than in years past, but that’s entirely due to aging.

To put a finer point on it, there’s so much demand for workers now that even the most marginal American workers, such as teenagers and people with disabilities, are doing unusually well in the labor market. Ironically, some parts of the country complaining loudest about immigration today are the same places trying to loosen limits on child labor because their worker shortages are so acute.

The influx of new talent has not only helped us beat recent recession predictions; it’s also helped us best our competitors in Asia and elsewhere, where demographic challenges are dragging on growth. The U.S. economy is one of the only places in the world right now that is doing even better than expected before the pandemic began.

And, if current immigration trends continue — which they might not, depending who wins in November — immigration is likely to boost our fortunes in the years ahead: The Congressional Budget Office recently revised upward its 10-year gross domestic product projections by $7 trillion, attributing the increase to immigration-driven labor force growth. Our longer-term fiscal challenges also look better, since immigrants pay taxes and are much less likely than native-born Americans to (ever) qualify for benefits, including programs such as Medicare and Social Security.

Yet, somehow, the Trumpy right argues that greedy, freeloading immigrants are simultaneously stealing both our jobs and our precious tax dollars. In reality, they’re beefing up both."

if this is true. then why does Dictator Joe have a US Border Patrol? why not just open all the borders and let immigrants in?

reply

Also if this is true, then why are lefty cities whining like fags about red states bussing the illegals to them?

reply

haha exactly. they should be happy that thousands of immigrants are coming to their cities. after all it will just make their state economy that much better.

reply

My goodness, you're right. Borders are nothing more than evidence of white supremacy!

And if you're not too keen on having your neighborhood settled by Guatemalans who live 20 to a house, trash their property, play loud music all night, and are possibly responsible for those power tools of yours that went missing, well, don't forget that the (totally not faked) GDP is up! What kind of a bigot wouldn't take solace in that fact?

reply

Keelai 4 months ago :
"There are 1-2 million Chinese in Africa now. Europeans came to Africa to exploit, colonize and enslave. That's the reason Africans are kicking countries like France out now. "

Keelai today:
"The U.S. has ALWAYS been a nation of immigrants!!! Historically, immigration has ALWAYS been strongly encouraged for economic and population growth making the U.S. the richest and strongest in world history."

Not exactly consistent on immigration policy, is she?

reply

Whites immigrating to non-white countries: "BAD!"
Non-whites immigrating to white countries: "The BEST!"
Non-whites immigrating to non-white countries: "Um, does it hurt white people??"

reply

Keeliar is a joke and a troll. she makes posts to illicit a response.

she is not consistent on anything...people that voted for Joe have nothing to say so they have to pursue other avenues of trolling.

reply

Importing millions of people who pay no taxes and are instantly dependent on taxpayer handouts creates prosperity? You have to be the dumbest ass in captivity to believe this nonsense.

Historical fact, rampant immigration destroys economies.

reply

Close the border!

reply

Biden is awesome!

At supporting genocide.

reply

Rimshot.

reply

I remember when Trump based his tax cuts being revenue neutral on having 3.5% GDP growth. I heard an economic analysis that said we'd never get that growth while decreasing immigration like Trump was doing. In fact, he said that growth rate would require a doubling of immigration, not a decrease.

reply

I learned a long time ago that democrats were economy-retarded.

reply

So instead of solving the problems at home they just import solutions. No wonder Americans are getting dumber and useless by the day. And Americans don't want to build homes (construction) or care for the elderly? wut? It also doesn't mention the type of migrants. I guessing illegals for harvesting and legal for high-tech.

Washington Post aka Bezos controlled aka Amazon aka need warehouse workers for slave labor.

reply

"solving the problems at home"

Your suggestion about solving problems at home means you will find a way to make millions of seniors younger by decades. If you find that "fountain of youth", let me know!

It also means you'll be able to get those newly young, former seniors to procreate 10 babies each. Let me know how that works out!

Rorikon, I know you're fairly intelligent, therefore playing dumb doesn't suit you. There aren't enough younger native Americans to fill jobs or support the tax base to maintain our economy. I made that clear in my comment.

The U.S. has ALWAYS been a nation of immigrants!!! Historically, immigration has ALWAYS been strongly encouraged for economic and population growth making the U.S. the richest and strongest in world history.

Both political parties and businesses have always strongly favored immigration!

The anti-immigrant rhetoric is recent and likely started by Trump who is the grandson of immigrants and married two immigrants. What a hypocrite!!!!

reply

I would rather have a smaller US economy where all the jobs are held by AMERICANS, than a bigger one where the wages are shit and half the jobs are held by NOT AMERICANS.

reply

Exactly this. What it is with boiling everything down to dollars and cents? If I don't want Mestizos doing jobs that white teens used to do; or I don't want Pajeets driving down wages in the tech sector thus crowding out white college grads; and if I don't want those people moving into my neighborhood because we have completely different ideas about social cohesion, well, I can't protest because "muh economy!" We can't do anything that would risk making the Economy God angry!

Maybe having a culturally homogenous society is more important, eh? Maybe having a high-trust culture brings day-to-day benefits that can't be replaced by adding a percent or two to the (totally not faked) GDP numbers.

reply

You're stereotyping. There are plenty of immigrants who are doctors, engineers, tech field and in other high-paying fields. Immigrants are also more likely to start businesses creating employment opportunities further driving the economy.

Your desire for an ongoing recession is ignorant.

reply

How many of the tens of millions of illegals that have poured over our border in the last decade are doctors or engineers? How many started a business that was something other than a food truck?

reply

The U.S. government gave away free land to new immigrants to encourage immigration.

You're not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, are you?

I doubt that any immigrants want to live in your trailer park. Meanwhile, my area is thriving with foreign-born professionals and entrepreneurs.

reply

We had pro-immigration policies in teh past. You present that as though it means that we are not allowed to have differnet policies today.

That's dumb. Like eating paste dumb.

reply

What's dumb is wanting the economy to crash or attempting to replace adult workers with 9 year olds like the backward red states are doing.

reply

I want American jobs for AMERICANS.

reply

There aren't enough Native-Americans and Hawaiians to fill all jobs.

reply

American jobs for Americans. Completely reasonable request.

Your... shit talk is dismissed. As are you .

reply

Keelai, I get the feeling you have no idea about the status of immigration to the United States between 1924 and 1965.

reply

Yeah, his claim that both parties have always favored immigration is simply ignorant.

reply

What's really funny is that in the past it was her side, the left, who used to make these same arguments about how unfettered immigration hurt the working man. Hell, Bernie Sanders in the not-too-distant past was all for building a wall. But then their religion changed and now they are forbidden from expressing any view that might promote the interests of Whites, so they've done a 180.

reply

Unless you're an African-American or Indigenous, you're a descendant from immigrants.

reply

You said, "Historically, immigration has ALWAYS been strongly encouraged," and that's simply not true. We had no immigration for 4 decades in the 20th century and it not-so-coincidentally led to the greatest level of social cohesion and middle class growth in our history.

reply

What nonsense! Provide specific years and link. I want to laugh.

reply

What the heck is wrong with you? In most cases, even the most blatant of trolls will enter a conversation with a bare minimum of knowledge. And if the discussion enters a topic in which they're wholly ignorant, they won't advertise that fact but will whistle past the graveyard. Immigration from the time of the 1924 Immigration Act until 1965's Hart-Cellar Act was throttled back exponentially. During the 30's and 40's, the yearly number of green cards issued amounted to roughly 1-3% of the amount handed out during most years before and after this period.

reply

"We had no immigration for 4 decades in the 20th century"

Not true! But, it was enacted to prevent Asians, Jews, Italians and other "undesirables" from Asia, Southern and Eastern Europe from immigrating in large numbers.

The U.S. bigots wanted immigration from "white" countries in Western and Northern Europe.

reply

Smart guys. That's how you maintain a high-functioning, high-trust society.

reply

You would have prevented Einstein from immigrating!

reply

Wow. You are shown it, you still DENY it, then you attack it, pointing out that it was wrong.

Once again, the primary characteristic of the "liberal" is a lack of self awareness.

reply

I see you hate Jews, Italians and Asians.

reply

I see you're a moron and a liar.

reply

"Your suggestion about solving problems at home means you will find a way to make millions of seniors younger by decades. If you find that "fountain of youth", let me know!"
Oh that's easy. If someone can change gender just by saying so then they can change age in the same way.

reply

A senior has a right to their Social Security benefits after 40+ years of work!

reply

Oh boy. Immigration is being used to prop up economic numbers in what can be called a Ponzi scheme.

Basically, due to the birth rate collapsing, college being useless for a lot of graduates, and am aging population, politicians are propping up the economy by flooding us with immigrants.

THis works in the short term, but overcrowding causes massive inflation and a severe reduction in wages for workers. To say nothing about the degradation of the culture.

Record amounts of drugs flood our streets. Police shortage increasing. Doctors are increasingly harder to access.

Our quality of life has been destroyed by evil men like Biden, bit by bit.

reply

If you've been to an average Emergency Room in the past decade plus, you'll notice that they more and more a resemble Tijuana bus stop. And how many of those people are paying a single cent for clogging access to a vital service? I had to go for a couple stitches over 15 years ago and while I was waiting to be treated, I could hear a doctor on the other side of the curtain dealing with a brown family. He required the services of a bilingual nurse and I heard him say to her in a highly exasperated tone, "tell them that they cannot keep coming here every time their child has a runny nose!!"

"But muh GDP is allegedly up a fraction of a percent! And those figures couldn't possibly be faked and massaged by the regime. Surely that's the most important aspect of having no borders, right?" Well, your GDP isn't making it easier for a native-born American to get adequate health care. It's not providing entry-level jobs to your kids or your nephews. It's not preventing the cops from wasting your tax dollars trying to follow up on drunken illegals driving around without a license.
