Horror movie about a boy staring at staircase at night

I have been trying to remember the name of this horror movie as I would like to watch it again. It's definitely from 2010 to 2020.

There is one particular scene which had terrified me as we had a similar dark spot in our house.

A boy of about 8 to 10 years is sitting on the floor, perhaps trying or intending to go downstairs but it's very dark at the landing area of the upper flight of stairs.

I think he even shines a torch and then runs away.

In the next scene, it's daytime and he kind of still stares at the landing.
