In addition to what capuchin said, I would highly recommend starting with the ‘New Who’ 2005 stuff. This was where I started with Alexi and she absolutely loves the show (currently we’re up to where Peter Capaldi is the Doctor, so she’s still got a little bit to go).
For me David Tennant was awesome and both Matt Smith and Christopher Eccleston were excellent.
Give it a try, I’m sure you and Ali will love it.
