Starts to get boring about 3/4 way through

Started out really strong. BEAUTIFULLY shot, great characters, freaky images. But then about 3/4 through it starts to lose its way (With the whole Dutch settlers side-story mainly). The racism angle is a bit heavy-handed as well and starts to get a bit silly. But as far as horror TV goes it's up there with some of the good ones.

Agreed
Great lensing, the sets and music were top shelf, all of the actors really nailed their roles...then it sort of loses it's way

The final episode did not explain everything...it had potential to be great based on the first half of the series but it really stumbled badly in the last two episodes

Just finished it. A bit curious why you think the Dutch settlers was a "side-story." And calling the depiction of racism "heavy-handed" seems misguided as well. . .you do realize this is based on true events, yes?

The story itself is fiction so I don't believe there is a direct link to historical events. I suspect some of these events happened in real life BUT I'm confident they didn't happen to one family. I think the writer took a bunch of incidents from the last 200 years and put them all in a show lasting ten days. I do think it will cause problems if people think this show is based on real events.

Hm. Depends on what you mean by "direct link to historical events." To be clear, I'm not suggesting the particular events of this story are based on real incidents. I'm just pointing out that the history of this country is EXACTLY as was shown here, vis-a-vis how people of color were (far too often) treated at the time, and the socioeconomic realities that were churning.

In point of fact: One of the things that's jarring about this series is the juxtaposition of things that absolutely didn't happen with the types of things that absolutely Did. Both horrific, just in different ways.
