How is it?

People are comparing it to Get Out, US, and the likes and depicts evil racist white people enacting realistic depictions of racism in the 50's by hurting innocent black family moving into their all white once peaceful town.

reply

I watched the first episode and all the neighbors are racist whites who are hostile towards the new family in the neighborhood. I think it's similar to Get Out since it has overtly racist whites and supernatural elements. It took a while for the house to sell and there is some sort of evil supernatural force in their house. I'm concerned that people are going to think this is based on a real story since the text in the beginning states that the story happened over ten days in the fifties. I don't plan to watch the rest of it since it's not uplifting/inspiring.

Racism and violence against others isn't uplifting or inspiring, but it is reality. This is a difficult show to watch, but it definitely is something that has happened in America and it should be addressed. If you don't want to watch it, then don't.

What happened to the other 22 comments about this show?

reply

It starts out great. I quickly fell in love with the sound track and scenery. The sets are beautiful and so are the old cars and wardrobe. But it takes a very weird turn. I’m on the final episode and honestly eager for it to be over. I became very confused a few episodes ago.

Liberal propaganda.

reply

Racist people... "Why rehash old stuff. Let bygones be bygones. Liberal propaganda." LOL!

reply

Fighting racism is a liberal thing indeed

reply

Fighting it? LOL They want to keep it alive as much as they can. So they can use it.

reply

That is one sick mindset.

reply

Yes, it is. I have been calling liberals sick for many years now.

reply

May be the dumbest statement I've ever seen on this site.

reply

It's dumb but it is true. If you think liberals want to solve racism, you are crazy.

reply

Yep. Not liberals, but Leftists, absolutely DEPEND on racism to further their causes.

reply

There is a difference between liberal and leftists? What is it? They support the same insane things.

reply

On the surface, yes, but it's like conflating conservatism with the alt-right. They may hold many of the same general positions, but they are not the same for a multitude of reasons.

There are tens of millions of classical liberals across the western world who believe in equality of opportunity, but do not demand an artificially imposed equality of outcome. They believe in a person's right to live their lives any way that makes them feel fulfilled and happy, but they do not agree to be FORCED to pretend that a man can be a woman or a woman can be a man. They strongly oppose the utterance of hate speech, but they also do not believe in 'hate speech laws' or censorship because they cherish free speech absolutism as the most fundamental right there is.

I could go on and on, but hopefully you see the difference. It's like Bill Maher vs AOC.

reply

Where are these liberals and why are they hiding?

reply

They're everywhere. I talk to several of them on a daily basis. They're left-centrists, who USED to be considered hardcore liberals in the 90's-2000's, and who now are horrified by how far to the left the political Left has jumped since about 2013. I know at least three of them who reluctantly became Trump supporters eventually, even though they still consider themselves liberals and personally HATE Trump. In fact, they blame the rise of radical Leftists for Trump's election in 2016, and frankly, they're not wrong.

They are hiding, for the most part, for the same reason that most conservatives don't speak up enough, or as strongly as they should. Because they have jobs, and careers, and things to lose. They are afraid to utter even the most basic truth in public, because Leftists might "cancel" and destroy them.

reply

We aren't really hiding. We became conservatives. Because liberalism has become batshit crazy.

reply

Well I agree, and that's essentially what I was trying to say. In the 90's, I was considered a centrist liberal. But I don't even recognize the Democrat party anymore, because of how far to the left they have jumped since 2013, and how batshit crazy they've become. And that goes for MANY people I know.

Pfffff, the last thing this stuff does is FIGHT racism. If anything, the last ten years of all this 'woke' horseshit slowly and increasingly permeating every aspect of our culture has made the Western world WAY MORE racist. Critical race theory has turned this nation, and many others, into lands of racial tribalism where every tribe is competing in a zero-sum game. It's literally the OPPOSITE of fighting racism.

reply

Nah, it's not making the world more racist. It's just bringing out all the closet racist fuckwads, by upsetting their little snowflake feelings. They were always there, now they just yell more about shit like "woke" libs, like obnoxious asshats. Which is kind of good, because it makes it easier for us normies to know who's a piece of shit.

reply

You're right. Because race relations were so much worse 10 years ago. Remember the bad times, when there weren't daily race-related riots, and lootings, and assaults, and murders? Remember the barbaric olden days, when the general consensus among non-racist "normies" was to not judge people by their skin color, and to treat everyone as individuals? Remember how bad things were when merit was what mattered, and not race?

Yes, Critical Race Theory and 'Wokeism' becoming mainstream has CLEARLY made everything better.

Also, you're not a "normie," Brent. Far from it.

reply

It does try to emulate the spookiness of Jordan Peele's movies. Other than that I'm not digging the use of music and the over-reliance of supernatural elements. It feels more unoriginal than compelling since it's trying to explore racism in American history but all they end up doing is trivializing it.

reply

I thought this was about the yearly shooting deaths in Chicago. I'm glad it is about racism instead. I almost forgot how evil our ancestors were.

reply

Ancestors? I thought this takes place in the 1950's?

reply

I checked the Imdb reviews. The default page is full of 10*s, half of them fake. The average rating is only 6.9.
I always sort by date to get better sample. Now there are four 1*s, half of them fake. But the real ones both say don't watch, it's torture porn.

reply

I thought it was amazing. Whereas I couldn't slog through Lovecraft Country, this series was truly engrossing.

And I am sure much worse things happened in reality, considering anyone could do anything to black people with complete impunity back then.

reply

Back then? It's true today. The police go out every day and hunt them down. And nothing happens to them. Black people can't even protest peacefully before white people show up and riot. Some white doctor and his family were killed by a black guy last week but that's only because of the concussions he received playing white football. And it's all over the news. Protests have broken out. Riots. Looting. All because one black man just happened to kill a white family by accident because of their white privilege.

reply

Huh? So you are justifying the murder??

reply

Only if a black person kills a white person. It's called reparations.

reply

Idiot. Just on so many levels - a complete and utter idiot.

Don't respond to me anymore, you are not worthy.

reply

I'm pretty sure he's only being ironic.

reply

Unfortunately not. Read what the creep show said below.

reply

How do you account for the almost non-coverage of a black man slaughtering a whole white family but when a black criminal resists arrest and is accidentally killed there are riots across America? Splain that, please.

reply

I can't understand you with your mouth full of boot. You're supposed to just lick them, not swallow the whole thing down.

reply

it's not as witty as 'get out' and at times a bit of a mess (the supernatural stuff), but still the best horror series i've seen since 'the haunting of hill house'.
