Not quite the typical rom-com...

At first I found the lead actress's character annoying but all-in-all what sets this apart from your average rom-com is the message: that you're not always sure, and sometimes you take a chance with someone anyway so that you don't end up alone -- and the point of this film is maybe that's not such a bad thing.

I, too, found the female lead annoying at first, but I eventually got to like her. My wife intensely disliked her throughout the movie.

I think that was how it was written. The film is seen from the guy's perspective, she is unattractive to him (and therefore us) in the beginning but as he warms to her he is presented as more attractive. It's a clever device, see also The Wrong Missy for another example of this.

While I see what you're talking about, it's still a typical rom-com in having the two leads get together. I was hoping these two would remain platonic and help each other find other romances. Cause as friends they had chemistry. As a couple it was a little weird. It's like, why can't guys and girls just be friends?! I was also offended that everyone in the movie kept telling them they should be together? Why? Just because he's a man and she's a woman? They weren't wrong in just being friends.
