Cigarettes product placement.

99.9999% of scenes of LB have him either puffing or holding a cigarette. Weird.

n***a liked too smerk, whats it too you?

reply

He was like that, a chain smoker.

No particular brand of cigarette is prominently shown. That would be product placement.

This is simply a depiction of someone who smoked incessantly.

While absolutely not product placement, it's more than just depicting a habit of his, it's
foreshadowing his wife's fate. We know someone is going to die from cancer in this film as it progresses and even as she's dying they can't help but continue to smoke due to their obsession (which itself is a reflection of character)

I agree although they all smoked so much I felt smothered by the end of the film lol

If anybody had followed my dad around with a camera in the 1940s through 1970s, chances are he'd have had a cigarette in his hand or mouth. Almost every adult I knew back then smoked most of the time, unless they were asleep. There were ashtrays on the tables in public libraries. Doctors smoked while they were in the exam room with you. Sidewalks and grocery store floors were covered with butts. It's hard to imagine how it was unless you were there.
