No Italian accents.

Medici on Netflix is pretty good. It would be far superior if the cast had Italian accents instead of English accents. They sound as if from India or S. Africa or cleansed English accents.
Dustin Hoffman is the brothers father with a full on American accent. If that's not bad enough, it's supposed to be in the early 1400's, before America was even colonized!

There are quite a few of the actors on the show who are actually Italian, the actor who plays Cosimo's son for one.

reply

Piero, Cosimo's son, is italian (Alessandro Sperduti is his name).
Other italians actors are: Bianca (Cosimo's first love); Marco Bello (Cosimo's right hand); Lucrezia (Piero's wife); Maddalena (Cosimo's mistress) and the personal servant of Contessina. Also the guy who played Brunelleschi is 100% italian.

reply

Well, by the same token, there was no Italy until the 1800's !!!
I would not get so hang up on accents etc ...
The series was excellent, why be so critical???

reply

I think the OP is the same one that was on the Versailles page complaining about the accents, as well. It's a silly thing to get hung up on.

I prefer to just enjoy the story.

Yes there was an Italy. It just wasn't a unified country,

reply

That's because when Italians are speaking to other Italians they don't have accents. And nobody actually knows what kind of accents 14th & 15 Century Florentines/Romans/Milanese had. It's like complaining that the actors in 'Rome' didn't have Ancient Latin/Ancient Egyptian accents.
