What I didn't like about the real story (spoiler)

Apparently after the guy went to space, he didn't go up there again. He went back to farming again. In the movie, he acted like it was his dream to be an astronaut and they spent millions of dollars on him to be in space. All for him to end his time as an astronaut to go back to square one to be with his family. What a waste.

Perhaps you should read about what Hernandez actually did instead of complain about how the film portrayed him. Why is it so strange to think that a person might have a lifelong dream to be an astronaut?

NASA hired Hernandez in 2004. First he was assigned to the Shuttle Branch to support Kennedy Space Center Operations in support of shuttle operations. In 2007 he was an aquanaut in the Aquarius underwater laboratory. Then he trained as a mission specialist for STS-128 which ended in 2009. After several years in NASA, he ran for office.

Lots of NASA astronauts only flew on a single mission. Look here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_Astronaut_Corps#Selection_groups

Perhaps being with your family is a waste, but I think most others do not think that way.
