This film gets accused of being a ripoff off Fern Gully, Dances With Wolves and Pocahontas.

Weird how no one accused those movies of being ripoffs of each other.

reply

I did. it was so obvios they were standins for indians.

reply

I've never thought of it as a ripoff of any other movie. I've always just thought of it as a retelling of American history. Only set on another planet and with extremely lavish, colorful, gorgeous, extravagant imagery/groundbreaking special effects.

reply

Me either. Movies can have a similar premise but be completely different. I don't recall people saying Toy Story and Small Soldiers were the same movie.

reply

Small Soldiers is just a Gremlins remake. It bears little resemblance to Toy Story other than the superficial.

reply

I haven't seen any of those three, but I do know that The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise (a personal favourite movie of mine) has the same basic plot, and is based on a true story.

reply

I haven't seen 2 of the 3, but I question why people don't think they're a ripoff of each other.

reply

It's not like Pocahontas at all, I don't know why people say that. It is A LOT like Atlantis: The Lost Empire, where guy goes on expedition to strange new world, falls in love with the princess, and helps the nation stop a guy who looks just like the Avatar villain from exploiting the new world for money while flying around on creature-looking Atlantean technology.

reply

Maybe they think natives being in a movie are all the same.
