Tim Burton's best movie

Every other one of his movies other than Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood is *beep* garbage compared to Sweeney Todd

reply

I agree.  

reply

I don't..
I hate movies with constant singing ("Into the Woods" was freaking annoying as well).
The only reason I watched it out was because 2 of my favorite stars were in this movie.
I've muted most of the songs.

"Gar nicht so übel, du kleine Schlampe. Man sieht sich immer zweimal, Kleine."

reply

I think you're mistaken for Les Miserables where 98% of the movie is singing. Todd is what Les Mis should have been

reply

Gosh, so sad that you would mute out the songs. "Sweeney Todd" is one of Sondheim's best works, in my opinion. The music is so complex and multi-layered. I have seen both the musical and the movie, and love them both.

reply

If you've seen the musical you must be or a woman or someone who loves bj's a lot..

"Gar nicht so übel, du kleine Schlampe. Man sieht sich immer zweimal, Kleine."

reply

Wow, insecure much?

So a man can't like musicals or stage shows unless he is trying to sleep with a woman?

Try and get out of the house and experience some culture once in a while.

reply

I think he is doing a Sough Park joke.

I don't think everything else is garbage. But most of his work pales in comparison to Sweeny Todd.

It's def one of his best

Great film a perfect musical for burton to adapt

I would say it's the best depp/button collaboration with sleepy hollow coming in close second

reply

It's also Johnny Depp's best work because it showed the world he could sing.

reply

No it did not. What Depp did was passably warble.

But this was not good singing, by any stretch of the word.

reply

Uh, that's not singing.

reply

...this is an entertaining film but it is hardly a masterpiece.
edward scissorhands is a far better film, as is ed wood.

reply

Interesting, as I didn't care for Edward Scissorhands at all. It wasn't bad, but the story and way it played out was a rather trite attempt to transpose Beauty & the Beast into suburbia.

However, I would agree that Ed Wood is probably a better movie than Sweeny Todd, and Burton's true masterpiece. The Nightmare Before Christmas might be a close second.

~ I'm a 21st century man and I don't wanna be here.

reply

I would have put nightmare before christmas first, but as he didn't direct it i wasn't sure wether to count it.
though that is one of my favourite of all time.
watched sweeney todd last night, great movie, i like the idea that edward scissorhands was beauty and the beast in suburbia i hadn't actually thought of that before, good insight.

reply

No, it's a masterpiece.

Yes,indeed! I absolutely agree Sweeney Todd is Tim Burton's ultimate masterpiece and the best film he have ever create. I don't think that he will ever do a film better than Sweeney Todd. Such a unique piece of filmaking, it's my all time 2nd favorite film. Top Notch !!!!

reply

Maybe if the songs were cut out, it would've been a decent movie. Now it's one of his worst movies IMO.

reply

So the fact it is a direct movie version of one of the most beloved and complex musicals ever written, by one of the modern world's most revered composers just kind of flew right by you, didn't it Troll?

The movie sucked, true, but because Burton seemed unable to come to terms with the fact it was a musical at all. I mean he cut down or cut out the best songs.

Perhaps, if musicals are too difficult for you, you might prefer a Rom/Com or a nice kids film.
