For Reasons We Can't Explain, Did Anakin's Mom Lose The Will To Live?

It's said that Shmi has been gone for over a month, yet within two minutes of Anakin tracking her down it looks like she's completely lost the will to live.

Was she disappointed in Anakin? Perhaps she sensed that he was going to be up to no good? Or was it all just one massive coincidence that she died there and then?

tortured for a month

reply

Yes.

reply

Gangraped by Sandpeople. Sand gets everywhere. It's rough.

reply

The torture she endured was too much, but she was holding out hope of seeing her son again, and when she did, her spirit gave in.

reply

Despite not having heard from Anakin for a full 10 years, she was holding on in case he happened to drop by?

reply

Ever seen Changeling (2003), with Angelina Jolie ? A mother never gives up hope.

reply

Maybe she lost the will to live once she realised he wasn't going to use his force healing powers to save her.

He could have done that and then taken her home. But oh no, he has to let her die so he can have his blood thirsting vengeance on the Sand People.

And not just the men! But the women! And the children too! "Oh Annie. You'll always be the little boy on Tatooine to me... But when you talk like that..."

It was supposed to have the same resonance as Odysseus returning and seeing Argos after ten years but whereas to read that is heartbreaking, the bad acting. bad dialog, and bad story in this pile of steaming $h!t makes Shimi's death cringe worthy.

It was dumb that he left her in the first place. No ten-year-old kid would leave his mom as a slave to go flying spaceships across the universe! Qui Gon couldn't get her set free?! Princess Amidala (with her millions and millions of space bucks) couldn't get her set free?! Then (and this really burns my a$$) when he (Anakin)learns how to fly said space ships and grows up flying said space ships- IT TAKES HIM TEN YEARS TO GO BACK TO GET HER?!

$h!tty writing is $h!tty writing! I still can't understand how ANYONE, at his point can defend anything about these $h!tty movies.

I teach elementary school. Do you have any idea of just how deep the attachment that ALL ten-year-olds have to their mom is?! Obviously, a schmuck like George Lucas has no concept of that attachment!

During the making of the original Star Wars film and The Empire Strikes Back, George had both Gary Kurtz and his first wife Marsha to control him and reign in his stupidity. They were both gone by the time Jedi was made, and it shows. George never did anything worth a damn ever again. Yeah, his crap made money, but none of it was any good!

reply

George is the victim of surrounding himself with Yes-Men.

reply

Nah, he's just an out of touch hollyweird person.

reply

...Qui Gon couldn't get her set free?!

Yeah, this is pretty poor.

I watch the prequels as a separate continuity so I don't have to get annoyed about the failure to tie in with the OT. But even once you've done that, this really pushes it.

What kind of a psychopath is Qui Gon here? They are literally flying off planet back to the safety (if Jedis even need that!) of Coruscant and he won't take the kid's mother with them? What's that all about?

Is he frightened that Watto is going to track them down and take his vengeance?

And he refuses to do this, despite having the knowledge that the council may refuse him admission anyway!

Thus leaving the less than savoury situation that this old man, who has effectively stolen a young kid away from his mother, is going to take it upon himself to "look after" the pre-pubescent boy himself!

This particular storyline would not fly these days...

reply

She suffered a lot but wanted also to be rescued so thats what kept her alive. As soon she knew she was save, she released her last spirits who kept her alive. It is not like Anakin finds on Tatoiine a doctor he can bring dead bodies to revive... (looking at you Boba Fett Show)
