Why does Malcolm say there were only 3 deaths at Jurassic Park?

When he talks to Ludlow at the start of the movie he mentions 3 deaths that Jurassic Park was responsible for when we know of 4 deaths from the film. Did he not know there were 4 or is he just choosing to ignore Nedry's death?

reply

Maybe because he felt Nedry deserved his fate.

More likely that he just didn't know what happened to Nedry. Possibly he wasn't aware of his existence, or, seeing as there would likely be a full analysis/report on the events of Jurassic Park, *no one* could say for certain what happened to Nedry (his remains were probably splayed across the park, and for all anyone knew, he'd escaped and was in hiding somewhere). No corpse, no *official* death.

But I doubt Malcolm would be the type to make such a callous judgement. If anything, he'd be more inclined to over-exaggerate the number of deaths to make his point. He was pompous and self-regarding, but he wasn't cruel and he wasn't dismissive of anyone's death.

Maybe it can be also explained with Jurassic World 3. As shown in the movie, the shaving creme bottle Nedry has used to steal the embryos was in the posession of "evil Tim Apple". As he was also working for him in that movie and was directly an insider, he might be well aware of the whole betrayal. So team good guys might be convinced Nedry escaped.

reply

Perhaps, but I think Malcolm is someone who would use his death to reinforce his point. His death is just as much down to Jurassic Park as the others were, only difference is that they were more innocent.

reply

Precisely. If Malcolm was aware of Nedry's death, he'd have used it to make his point. Besides, I don't think Malcolm was the type to make a distinction between deserved and undeserved deaths, and did anyone determine what happened to Nedry?

Now thinking of it they didn't mention Nedry at the beginning. Another issue I have with the movie is unlike the novel the first movie did not end with the military blowing up the Island. So they should not have had an alternate clone Dinosaur island in the second movie.
