Incorporated a character in past historical events before Forrest Gump. Any others?

Saw this movie recently and I noticed the scene where Eastwood's character is placed into real footage and photos of the day JFK was shot in 1963. This reminded me of Forrest Gump being placed into historical events but this came out a year prior. Was this the first major movie to so this? Any other previous examples?

Driving Miss Daisy did it.

Ah, can you remind me of the context?

The title character Miss Daisy goes to see Martin Luthor King speak to a group of people.

Woody Allen's "Zelig" was premised on the notion of historical "insertion"
