Anyone find this line really sad?

It's when Bob Crachitt is talking to his family after Tiny Tim has passed away. He says "Life is made up of meetings and partings. That is the way of it. I'm sure that we shall never forget Tiny Tim, or this first parting that there was among us".

I don't know why, but something about that line was very sad. It really touches apon some of the losses we experience in our lifes.

Yeah, especially since this was the Muppets' first theatrical film since Jim Henson's death.

The more people I meet, the more I get why Jane Goodall spends all of her time with chimps.....

I said this somewhere else on this board but yes, its the best and most sympathetic handling of this scene in any version. What the Muppets do, they do well !

The line is made sadder when you consider that it's Henson's replacement who's delivering the line, and it's Henson's son who's directing the movie.

You're right and it seems a really simple and sincere way of dealing with it. They could have over-emphasised it and made it mawkish because of that but they didn't.

reply

Ah, that's the line I was looking for. Was sitting in the cinema and just started welling up and couldn't even remember the line till now.

A very true statement.

Its obviously written to make it easy for kids to understand it and in trying that, they absolutely nailed Dickens in a way no other version has done before or since.
Pure genius !

Not this one for me, but I found myself crying at "He said it would be good at this time of year for people to see who made lame beggars walk and blind men see"

I'm not even religious, and I was weeping like a baby.

reply

Yes, I lose it everytime.

reply

For me it was when Bob was talking about how Tiny Tim's burial site was where he could see the ducks on the river because that's what he loved.
