did delia love lydia?

she mostly seems to find her irritating, but then again, my mom and i get on each others nerves sometimes. lol

she did seem protective of her in the end. it just bugged me they never added any scenes where delia was kind to her family.

Just a bit overprotective of her "different" daughter and brushing it off from that supposedly rebellious age is all, I think.

reply

shes not really her daughter, shes her step daughter. which is why i wondered if she loved her.

reply

She acted pretty hateful to both Delia and her husband. I don't think she did love them. Which is why Lydia liked Barbara and Adam.

thats really sad. the only time she seemed to care about them was when they were in danger in the end. and how she made changes to keep everyone in the house happy.

you make a great point. if she was just in this for only money, as soon as the danger started, she would have ran out and saved herself. but when Otho ran, she chose to stay with her husband, and lydia. i didnt realize this.

I'm not so sure... she was really strange. And itvwas hard to tell if she was making money off her strange art or she married Charles for the money... it was almost a small tribute to Green Acres just adding in the bad artwork and her little ticks. The whole idea for Charles to move OUT of the city was to help his stress level... but one wonders if it was all from his 'new' wife... the chemistry worked really well with all the actors in the movie... which alone makes it one of my favorite all time movies...

The film had really muddled up character relationships, like as if it didn't know these people and just needed characters to stand in for the show.
Therefore there's no sense of actual believeable relationships in the film.
Except for Baldwin and Davis, of course.

Delia is the classic self absorbed narcissist. She only loves her own image in the mirror and compliments from those whom she perceives as higher status. And Lydia reminds us repeatedly that Delia is her "step-mother" and an evil on at that.

reply

She was never Evil lol she was a city girl, and artist and she got dragged to the middle of nowhere, she didn't have to go but she did, with her Husband and step-daughter. She's also tough, she was trying to be a strong personality for her family and her career.

reply

Yeah and except in one scene, Lydia was like to her, "Mom, can we just go?"
