Happy Birthday in the tub?

I always thought the introduction scene of Murtaugh was a strange one.
He's in the bathtub relaxing when his wife, 2 daughters and son come in carrying a cake and singing happy birthday.
I know some families are more open than others but this just seemed very awkward to me. If you watch it you'll see he barely even has any bubbles covering himself. He's sitting there naked and after he blows out his candles he grabs each one of them and gives them as kiss.
Maybe I'm a prude but i would ask my kids to please wait until I finished my bath to celebrate...

Though not my style, it's a quick way to show a loving, closely knit family.

Yea agreed, you're a prude. Nothing wrong with the scene since they are all family

Wouldn't have been odd at all for me, my mother and sister to do that to my dad when I was a kid. We would have thought it funny, and probably taken a picture of him in the tub holding the cake.

The wife places a wash cloth over his privates as she enters which to me indicates that the wife/family knows it is kind of weird too. I guess someone thought it would make for a fun scene in a movie but I would not be cool with it at all.
