Shouldnt they have shown more panic..

when hanging above the well which seems too deep for them to survive instead of cracking a joke and whispering sweet nothings to each other? I know it looks like there was no way to escape but they see just hang there and accept their fate without even calling for help. Doesnt seem realistic. Even when Ralph walks im they are not exactly begging for help as they only have seconds before their ropes snap. Also hanging like that wouldve put more of a strain on their wrists than they show do you think?

How deep does the pitt seem do you think? Or did they not show that to make the situation more scary?
