Which software program was Blair using?...

The computer program Blair was using to determine whether or not the crew was infected yet seems quite specific for an early 80's piece of software! Who wrote it?! Who was the intended audience?! Can I still download a copy somewhere?!

It was probably written in Basic C language of that time, like PAC-Man and Dig-Dug

But who's sitting down and writing a program which determines the percentage of likelihood that the human population is infected by an alien organism?! And they brought the floppy disk to Antarctica...for what reason?!

reply

The graphics reminded me of Asteroids.

Thanks, it's interesting. Blair's software in The Thing appears to be an accounting tool, perhaps for tracking assets and expenses. The interface is reminiscent of financial software from the early 1980s. If you are interested in such software for modern use, you can try fixed asset software https://www.asset.accountant/us/ which offers advanced features for efficient asset management. It's amazing how movies can sometimes unintentionally spark curiosity about unrelated things, isn't it?
