Great Combat Scenes

Damn some of them were great. I especially liked when Guinevere is being attacked on the castle wall. She’s defending the blows with a shield and her father, Leodgrance beats the guy back with his axe. It just seems more realistic than modern similar battle scenes. Great film!

And all done without CGI where they would have no doubt had millions of knights fighting each other in such a mess that it would make no sense at all.

The final battle is brilliant as well in the mist.

A great scene. So simple yet powerful.

Amen, Artisan! In Excalibur, I always get the sense of individual knights in the midst of the melee, rather than some CGI-homogenized mass of faceless figures. Every individual, every sword-stroke, counts, just as they should, with personal prowess & personal courage making the difference. It's what knighthood is all about, after all.

A very different film/genre but when I see the CGI battle scenes in the Star Wars prequels they just crowd the sky and it's amazing the space ships don't run into each other.

Same with the land battles they just fill the screen with so many fighters it doesn't have any meaning. They do the same with modern WW2 films.

Definitely! We lose the individuals in the mass in modern battle scenes.

I agree, such a well done movie.
