If they remade this movie, who should be the lady?

In my opinion, she should be played by Kate Mulgrew. One day, when I saw this movie, I noticed that Katherine Hepburn looked and soumded like Kate Mulgrew. Kate Mulgrew even played her, at one time.

Either Margot Kidder or Pia Zadora.

The trouble is that there are honestly no more ladies of this quality in Hollywood. One might have to do with George Clooney or Brad Pitt in drag(LOL). It's a great classic so why remake it, produce something original instead? In these miserable days of so-called 'political correctness' scriptwriters would have removed many of the present pithy remarks of John Wayne as he would now be considered as 'anti-feministic". Yes, it has a similarity in situation with the better known work 'The African Queen'; a grouchy past-best-sell-date man with an entirely put-on distaste for women is stuck with one throughout the movie anyway and the couple reveal their great admiration, if no love, for each other by the end of both tales. Otherwise the resemblance to 'The African Queen' is mostly quite different, unless some nit picker remarks on Miss Hepburn's loss through violence of a screen pastor father or elderly brother earlier in both movies.

Maybe a dumb question, but isn't True Grit the remake of this movie?

reply

^^lol yes, yes it is.
edit:actually, theres another movie with John Wayne titled "True Grit" from 1969.

reply

This is a sequil to that movie.

The original film seemed strange because Kate Hepburn was the same age as John Wayne (both were born in 1907), so it would seem odd to see Kate Mulgrew opposite Jeff Bridges who's only 6 years her senior in real life.

Knowing the way Hollywood mucks up sequels AND knowing that the Coen Bros. would refuse to remake this film they'd probably cast Julia Roberts or Renee Zellweiger opposite Sean Connery or Nick Nolte.

I think Kate Mulgrew would be a great casting for Katherine Hepburn's character. I would love to see this film remade as I loved the original and the Coen Bros. did a great job with True Grit. This films can be remade even though Rooster is dead at the end of True Grit because Rooster Cogburn takes place several years after True Grit. I hope they do it too because I loved Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn, he was a delight to watch even though he was hard to understand half the time.

I haven't had a drink since breakfast.

He died 25 years later.... im assuming the original sequel took place in that timespan or am i wrong?

I think Cate Blanchett would be a fine choice, but yeah, Helen Mirren was the first actress that came to mind for me, as well. I thought maybe Judi Dench, but that might be overdoing it. Funny how we so few of our major older actresses are not Americans.
