Just saw this classic for the first time

It is nice to find decent movies that I have not seen. Steiger is deserving of the Oscar.

The scene in Steiger's living room between two men talking about marriage & loneliness.

"You ever been married?"

"No." - Tibbs

"Ever been close to it?"

It do not get better than that.

It's flat out wonderful.

Same
Just watched it last night on Amazon Prime
Another gem that I somehow missed all these years.
Direction, acting and great music!

sure is

This is a good mystery. Poitier's response line "They call me Mr Tibbs" is well delivered. I want to see the film of that name now where Mr Tibbs plays out in San Francisco. 'Heat' is a very good movie. I've rated it 8/10.

Great film that works as a solid message movie and an engaging mystery thriller.

A solid film. Not sure about Best Picture. But solid

I hadn't watched the film for a long time and I was a bit surprised how good Steiger was. Perhaps it's an age thing? When you're younger you watch the hero - Poitier. When you're older it's the character Steiger plays that catches the eye.

It is a good movie. I too am not sure it's worthy of being a Best Picture as I'd give it a 7 or 7.5 out of 10.

Steiger is very good and delivers the best performance of the film. I like Poitier but some of his delivery in his interactions with Steiger feels a bit forced and unnatural at times.

'68 was a difficult year for the Oscars, honestly. I've seen all the major category nominees at least once and from the viewpoint of the moviegoer I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to make just one choice in each category. They truly were every one of them top-drawer and deserving.
