Recall gas war in summer 1968 with regular going for 18 cents/gal. Normal price was 33 cents.

Regular Hardee's and MacDonald's burger going for 15 cents.

Even at that price, you can see Bonnie shaking her head at the expense.

$6.43 in 1932 is equal to $112.65 in today's dollars, adjusted for inflation. Not exactly a bargain.

When I worked at a supermarket in southern California in the early '70s a lady came in one day and spent $50.00 on groceries. This splurge was so unusual that word got around the store and we all made our way up to the checkout stand to have a look. Her $50.00 haul completely filled two full-sized carts, including the low racks under the main baskets, and these were the old-style deep shopping carts. Today, I can spend $50.00 on groceries and walk away with one bag.

That amount is 147 dollars in todays money adjusted for inflation in 2023
